“Well, the tyres were working throughout the weekend, then we got to qualifying and every time I went out of the garage, my tyres were for some reason below on temperature. Every set was two or three degrees lower than it should have been, and you can’t catch it up and I couldn’t switch the tyres on after that. That’s something we have to really look at, because something went on with the blankets, I guess.”

EDIT:
As seen in this old tiktok from the McLaren team:
The tyre temperature in F1 is monitored INDIVIDUALLY. So they can keep an eye on every tyre. A small difference might happen but 2/3 degrees on “EVERY SET” as Lewis said is WILD.

"I didn’t know that…I didn’t know that we were both… I didn’t know that he [George} would be going to a Medium tyre. If I would’ve known that, I would’ve stayed out and I would’ve stayed on the medium tyre. The medium tyre was much better. That was amongst so many other…(inaudible)…… That was not such a great call and… Ultimately I couldn’t keep him behind me he had half a second on me at least with those tyres.”
