Lewis with Mary McGee on race day in Canada | 09.06.24
Mary was the first woman to compete in motorcycle road racing and motocross events in the United States! Lewis is also produced a documentary about her which premiered at Tribeca Festival.
"Mary McGee. A true trailblazer and pioneer in motorsport ✊ Mary started her racing career in sports cars in 1957, before switching to motorcycle racing Inspired to try desert racing on the advice of her friend and Hollywood icon Steve McQueen, Mary was the first woman to race the Baja 1000 and is the first and only woman to finish the Baja 500 solo Mary was a special guest of @lewishamilton for Sunday’s Canadian GP 🙏" - june 10, 2024 📷 @.mercedesamgf1 / instagram

Her most remarkable achievement came in 1975, when she became the first person, man or woman, to complete the Baja 500 race solo.
Mary McGee, a risk-loving motorcycle rider who was often the only woman on the tracks she raced on — and certainly the only one wearing a pink polka-dot helmet — died on Nov. 27 at her home in Gardnerville, Nev. She was 87.
