Snake Eyes (closed starter for 0utlawofthewest)
Move to Nevada, they said. It’ll be fun, they said.
Echo was having anything but fun in the middle of a desert. She missed the forests of home with the rain, but not the people there. That’s the whole reason she moved in the first place. Thankfully, the casino she was working for gave her two weeks to settle in before she started work.
All the skate parks around Vegas were crowded, obviously, but someone had tipped her off to this spot. She despised heat, but it was slightly overcast, and she’d have to deal with it.
It looked like wreckage of some kind, but whatever it was, it had left makeshift ramps and flat pieces in the sand for her to skate on. They would have to do, if she wanted to practice. There were some nice little rocks off to the side with what looked like mini caves in them, and they provided some shade. If she got too overheated, she could always go there, she supposed.
Skates laced up, she got to work. Her right foot helped her curve around turns, weaving back and forth in a serpentine pattern before she jumped, rolling backwards. The sand didn’t exactly feel nice under her wheels, but it was all she had until she found a quieter, less crowded place to practice. That in and of itself was going to be hard in Vegas, but it never hurt to try.
One wrong turn, though, and a small rock clogged her wheel. She managed to stop, but not before falling on her back with a hard huff, groaning. She’d fallen in the direction of those rocks, and thanked her lucky stars they weren’t closer. She sat up after a moment, back facing the rocks with the shadowy overhangs, rubbing her face.
“Fuckin’ hell..” She muttered, southern accent dripping heavily from her words like syrup.
