“Hey!”  Sara cried as the door pushed.  Her clumsiness caused her to topple onto her ass, watching the door slam shut with indignant offense.  She should be the one offended, he just shoved her over!

Then again, she did tug his handle without permission, really… Okay, maybe she deserved that.  Maybe.  The young woman didn’t catch she was now referring to the car as he, as if he was a living, breathing person with personal space, and she hadn’t just been hoping this was a prank.  Cautiously, she shifted onto her knees, crawling around to the front to peer at the scanner. “…Who are you?  What’s your name?”  If he could have opinions and boundaries, he was just as much a person as she was.  All new interactions started with introducing oneself.

KARR’s scanner continued to eye her cautiously, registering each movement right down to her joints. Her body, as clumsy as it appeared, would do little to threaten him. He had the upper hand when it came to physical strength, even if all he could do was sit there and tolerate a few uninvited tugs or prods.

In response to her questions, a burst of static and other scrambled noises rose from his cabin again. “I am…” …Fuck. Fuck. What was he? He was him, yes, but aside from that…

…He couldn’t admit to not knowing. Not knowing was a flaw. He would never accept being flawed.

“I am… Classified.”

Yes, that was a good coverup. She wouldn’t know he was quite literally blanking on his own title. Hopefully. His pauses and repeats could be attributed to his systems still trying to diagnose and re-calibrate themselves.

Sara wasn’t a brainiac when it came to computers (even less so when it came to socializing), but she knew both malfunction and guardedness when she saw them.  Listening to this...dude try to scramble for even his name was just pitiful, and despite his rudeness, she felt a tug on her heart strings.  What was originally a curiously indignant stare softened, and she regarded the flickering light on the vehicle’s prow.  Against her better judgement, she reached up and wiped the grime from his “eye”, her movements very slow and gentle.  Last thing she wanted was for him to electrocute her, or split his chassis in half and bite her or something.

“Well, Classified,” Maybe she was still a little salty about being shoved over.  “I’m not a threat, and it’s nice to meet you.  Not every day you meet a talking car.”  She seemed at a loss for words, glancing away and chewing nervously on one of her fingernails.  He probably wouldn’t care if she offered her own name, and he’d probably answer all other questions about himself with the same government scripted classified shtick.

Finally, she seemed to come across a line of questioning that just might get her somewhere.

“Do you, um...want to get out of here?  I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but you’re in the equivalent of a car graveyard.”  Carefully once again, she scooted slightly to the side, gesturing expansively behind her.  She didn’t move completely from his line of sight, though.  He hadn’t told her to scram, so...maybe he wanted her around?  She found herself hoping so.

KARR measured her reaction, and through his mangled mass of data, he tried to compare it to what he knew. Revealing her hands in such a manner meant she had no weapon, or at least she was not going to use one. Good. He appreciated the visible lack of threat.

“What is YouTube?”

His voice sounded significantly calmer now, though the static underneath persisted. That was going to get rather annoying- no, it already was annoying. What was a minor malfunction on the surface was a sign of decay, of imperfection to KARR. A quick diagnostic check revealed it to be a hardware issue, nothing the AI could fix on his own.

When he felt her tug on the handle, he allowed it to unlock. However, instead of offering her access to his interior, he swung his door wide open to push her away before slamming it shut. “The locations of my sensors are classified.”

Sara had been growing tense as she watched the exchange. She knew the signs well, having been uncomfortably flirted with many times. Women were just as ruthless as men, and this was a prime example. Even if he scolded her often, she couldn't stand by and watch him endure this. With more bravado than most men, she walked over, linked her arm with Forte's, and stared at the girl. "Hey, what's up over here?" Her arm kept a firm grip on his own, hopefully communicating that she was there to save him.

It was the touch that got the glaze over the older man's eyes to clear up. Though, it was because it'd also gotten him to startle. Forte was able to recover quickly. Unwanted advances from women did not affect him as much as if it were coming from a man, due to his past experiences. In any case, he was uncomfortable enough from his subconscious threatening to seep into his conscious that he wanted to remove himself posthaste.

Sara saved him the brainpower to have to come up with an excuse to leave himself. There was a small grunt, maybe in thanks?, from his nose. Then he gave a fairly forceful pull with his body. He was leaving right then, whether he dragged his acquaintance along with him or not.

Sara stumbled with a gasp as he pulled her after him, leaving the woman dumbfounded (and possibly insulted) behind them. For someone smaller than her, he definitely had some strength.

"Wh-Whoa, you can relax, she isn't following us." She offered, taking bigger strides to keep up with him. A small mental note was taken that their arms were still linked, and it made her flush a bit. Physical contact wasn't her-pun intended-forte.

More notable was that she felt her hair stand on end. The composer's skin seemed to prickle like static with his power, even if he wasn't using it. It was an odd feeling, to say the least. Even when he wasn't using it, it was like a barely perceivable cloud around him, the way he walked and held himself. She was so absorbed in thought, she almost tripped, but quickly caught herself once more to keep pace with him.

An undetermined amount of time after someone had harassed and/or flirted with her, KARR approached Sara, splatters of crimson liquid across his otherwise pristine shell. "You need not worry about that one any longer. The source of your discomfort has been eliminated." - Decepti-KARR

Sara had become familiar with the mechanical drone of KARR's motor, and as he approached, she looked up from the book she was reading. It was thin, but the cover was old, the pages slightly yellowed with age.

When she paused to look up, her eyes widened and her lips parted in a more controlled version of a jaw drop. Her mouth moved a bit, like she wanted to speak, but nothing came out. In one clumsy movement, she put her bookmark between the pages, set the book down, and stood to run inside her run down apartment.

Less than ten minutes later, she was briskly walking back out the door. It took a few trips, but she had assembled a bucket of hot water, two rags, soap, a towel, and a bottle of hydrogen peroxide. She'd even managed to change her clothes, throwing on a pair of denim shorts, an old t-shirt with Pac-Man on it, and a pair of knock-off converse that looked like they'd seen better days. Even her hair was pulled up in a messy ponytail.

"Okay....okay, okay." She muttered under her breath to herself, dunking a rag into the water before approaching his driver's side. Her knee braced on the edge of his hood, and her other foot hooked into the rim of his tire well to help her balance as she leaned forward, starting with his windshield.

Forte just widened his eyes briefly before his brows furrowed in skepticism.

“The ballroom has some rather impressive floor-to-ceiling mirrors if I remember correctly.”

A lukewarm wind came from the organ’s pipes, whistling slightly as he gave a great snort.  His face had assumed it’s stern default, perhaps even more scowly than it usually was.

“But they’re surrounded in a beautiful gold trim that’s no doubt very expensive.  That’s nothing to say of the expense of the mirrors themselves– they might even be silver.”

He squinted, clearly distrusting of whatever plans Sara may have had.

“They are absolutely not to be damaged!  Least of all for my sake.  What would the Master say?”

“He would probably eat me; much to your relief, I’m sure.”  She wasn’t usually one to talk back, but her brain was working in overdrive.  With his towering height, it would be easy for him to peer over her shoulder, and see the hastily scribbled notes and floor sketch.  With her pale skin, it looked like charcoal on powdery snow. “See, something like this!”  She stood on his bench, carefully balancing with her back to him, raising her arm to show him the sketch while her free hand used the pen to gesture and point. “Those columns are massive!  Think about it, you walk into a big room with mirrors in a sort of curved, segmented alignment, and it’s like a copy of the entire other wall.  If I can find smaller mirrors to hang or lift in some way, it’ll give you an angle to see the ground and courtyard and stuff!  But for now, large mirrors at abooooout...there,”  She gestured to the slight left of the room, where a column stood with a candelabra nearby. “At this angle, this will at least give you a view of the sky, and tree line, as well as some of the outside architecture!”  With an excited fist pump, she jumped down from the bench, hurriedly working on her arm to finish the sketch, and some notes.  “And hey, we can use any reflective surface, not just mirrors!  I’m sure there’s old pieces of armor forgotten, and in need of a good shine!  Some pots and pans, any broken weapons lying around, stuff people won’t miss!”

Sara was practically bursting with the prospect of a challenge, and an opportunity to put her creativity to the test.  Her notes traveled from her hand, to her wrist, and were making their way up to her elbow as she beamed at him.  Never before had she smiled and shone like that in his presence, and it seemed like an entirely different girl compared to a minute ago.

“This is going to be awesome, I can’t wait to show this to you!  It’ll be fun!”

Creak.  The organ lifted his metallic cranium.

“The secret to immortality is living forever.  That’s all.”

Forte didn’t have anything to say about the philosophy that was presented to him.  He heard it perfectly fine; he’d chosen not to respond to it.  There was a bitter glower on his face as he stewed in how much he hated thinking about those things.

His expression only softened as he followed the other’s gaze.  Black eyes slowly turned.  As always, he could see nothing; merely the edges of the trim of the windows and the tatty curtains, but not outside the window.  He blinked, his eyes widening as he arched his body up, adjusting his head.  Logically, he knew no matter how he positioned himself, he wasn’t going to see out that window, but he tried anyway, his face turning into one of innocent curiosity.

“…What are you looking at?”

She let out a slow breath through her nose that fogged the glass a bit.  Attempting to provide him some strength in words wasn’t helping.  Jokes didn’t help, kind words of advice didn’t either...She had no idea what to do, truly, to help him feel any better. His question gave her pause, though.  Sara almost answered with what she was looking at, but she had a hunch that would only upset him further.  Describing the scene, even in her most poetic, descriptive way, could never compare to the real thing.  Torn, she glanced at his pipes, counting them in her mind as she tried to figure out the best approach.  They were thicker than her leg, a brilliant bronze with blue hues on their reflective surface... Reflective.  Reflective!

Sara suddenly jolted, eyes widening as an idea hit her.  Chest filling with a gasp of epiphany, she looked from outside, to Forte, then up to his face. “Mirrors!  Oh my god, mirrors!  I have an idea so you can look outside!”  Looking around like a mad woman, she pulled a pen from her pocket as she ran up to his keyboard.  Rolling her left sleeve up, she yanked her wristwatch off, giving herself an entire forearm, palm, and back of hand to scribble notes. “Forte, I need you to tell me where the biggest mirrors are in the castle.  No argue, just tell me.”  The words fell out of her face at an impossible speed.  She skid to a halt so she wouldn’t crash into his keyboard, sitting on the stool and scribbling a few notes on her arm.

Three months, give or take. It had been three months since Sara stood before the maestro, and he warned her against coming around, caused her to stumble on the stairs. She'd continued to come around, of course, but she'd made it a point to stay away from his room. Their last interaction had her questioning if she should talk to him again.

Though she felt numb at the time, and she'd never admit it aloud, he did hurt her feelings. She felt stupid holding him in such high regard when they barely knew each other, and he seemed to think so little of her so far. It only proved how much she wanted a friend, how much she wanted to matter to someone.

Yet, here she was...feeling the tug at her heart strings to offer him some comfort. She stayed across the room, though, gazing out the window to the cold courtyard below.

"We'll be remembered by the people we meet in our lives. The secret to immortality is simply living, and making an impact on others, even if it's one person." A pause, and she took a deep breath before cautiously proceeding.

"You matter. Trust and believe that, if nothing else." Her arms crossed under her chest, staring out the window. If he was going to chastise her again, she didn't want to be facing him.
