Sketching Chapter 1.4.3 - The Lark

1. The Thenardier's canonically have both a dog and a cat (ChouChou is canon!). And Cosette eats with them in a plate like theirs under the table. Everyone in town thinks the Thenardiers are very charitable.

2. VH says Cosette looks ugly now. But I think Hugo uses ugly very loosely. Ugly means 'visibly malnourished' in this case. But her eyes are big and what with her skinny body it's enough for people to avoid looking at her.

3. They pawned her clothes! I thought they were gonna give them to Éponine. Which option is worse?

4. According to Hugoan psychology 101, Mme T has a limited love/hate quota. So she gives all the hate to Cosette and all the love to Éponine and Azelma, and the girls learn to abuse Cosette. And so the child abuse cycle continues.

5. Victor Hugo gives animal counterpats to people a lot. So much that it's becoming a recurring theme. The people of Paris are cats/lions. Fantine is a mare. Valjean is not even a dog. Cosette is a dog, a cat and a caged bird all in one. The bishop had an ass, which is worthy of an analysis all of it's own. I wonder if he does this a lot or if it's just this book? I know in nddp the goat is a counterpart to La Esmeralda but Djali is such a character in her own right I don't think it qualifies to animal symbolism as much as a full on character. Orwell is jealous he didn't come up with that first.

6. Well Cervantes did it first anyway. I stan. I should write down from now on all the animal-human pairings. I wonder if Hugo is giving in to the Realist literary tendencies of comparing people to animals because science. Every chapter of this book can birth several theses (thesies? how do you plural). I wish I could dedicate myself only to studying literature.

Summary: Sweet Pea and the reader have been going out for a while and not once did they say the 3 words to each other. Sweet Pea comes to realization that he is in love with the reader and decides to play a game with her.

Its been about 6 months since Sweet Pea and Y/N have been going out and not once did they say the three words to each other and they were ok with that.

It was a regular night at the Whyte Wyrm. Sweet Pea say at the bar with Toni while Y/N and Fangs played a game of pool.

"I'm happy that you and Y/N are still together Sweets," Toni smiled as she poured Sweet Pea a drink.

"Toni I'm in love with her. I can't picture my life with out her," he said smiling softly at her.

"Have you told her yet," Toni asked willing down the counter.

"No but I plan on it," he smirked as he got his phone out and texted Y/N.

He looked up at her to see her put the stick down and take her phone from her pocket. She looked at her her phone confused before looking up at him. She walked up to Sweet Pea and showed him her phone.

"Babe what does 1-4-3 mean," she asked confused.

"Let play a game doll. If you figure out what that means without using Google by the end of the week I'll take you out where ever you want," he smirked.

"Ok it's on," she smiled as she went back to her game with Fangs.

Sweets smiled at her as she continued with her game. The week ended up going by fast and everyone was worried about Y/N. She had been trying to figure out what 1-4-3 meant.

"Sweet Pea what did you do to Y/N," Jughead asked worriedly.

"We are playing a game. If she can figure out what 1-4-3 means then I'd take her wherever she wanted," he said as he continued with his game of pool.

"Sweets I give please tell me what it means," Y/N cried out as she wrapped her arms around his waist and nuzzled her face on his shirt.

"Are you sure you want to know," he sighed looking down at her.

"Yes please," she sighed.

"Alright then here's what it means," he said as he pulled her away softly.

"Alright so 1 means I, 4 means Love and 3 means You," he smiled as she looked at him confused before realization hit her.

"I love you too," she smiled cheekily.

"I love you so much," he responded before pressing her lips to hers.

"Does that mean you won't take me where I want tomorrow," she asked looking up at him.

"I'll take you anywhere you want anytime love," he chuckled as he pressed his lips once more to hers.
