“At more than 1,000 years old, the Takizakura or "waterfall cherry tree," in Miharu, Japan, has lived through wars and famines, earthquakes and storms. Tourists had only recently started to return since one of the worst nuclear disasters in history took place near this part of Japan's Fukushima prefecture in 2011. This year the coronavirus pandemic has stopped tourists from visiting the ancient tree in Fukushima prefecture. "No matter what," says the tree's caretaker, "the cherry blossoms are still there.’“
