The Totally ‘Grammable Ice Cream of 10Below

We recently had a chance to visit the newish 10Below shop in Little Tokyo to watch how they roll their own version of ice cream. The L.A. outpost of the New York City-based chain opened in May to serve up its version of the Thai ice cream.

With a crème anglaise base used in most its offerings, the ice cream takes on the flavors of the add-ons and toppings. We had a chance to watch (and taste) the Strawberry Shawty (strawberries, graham crackers) and S’mores Galore (chocolate syrup, graham crackers, marshmallows). 

It’s mesmerizing to watch them create the ice cream, which are so Instagram ready, it’s ridiculous.

Let me introduce you to the place that started my food adventures. I first tried 10Below back when it had just opened while I was in high school. It was at this little ice cream shop in Chinatown that I had taken my first photo of food with the intent to post on social media. 10Below offers the unique experience of choosing from a variety of unique ice cream flavors (coffee, fruity pebbles, peanut butter banana, avocado, etc.) and seeing that ice cream rolled right before your very eyes. The ice cream, combined with free unlimited toppings, is the perfect experience for anyone looking to take a bite out of NYC’s dessert scene--all for only $7.

10Below, influenced by street food from Thailand, began the rolled ice cream craze that took over New York City. The chain has since expanded to Philadelphia and Los Angeles.
