#10YearsOfDannyV: the finale. If you know me well enough, this is an obvious post, but still, of all the #musical #influences I have, the most #important one is @jefflynneselo... My dad's favorite band/musician, and by extension mine as well. Dad was lucky enough to see the original band play the Cow Palace in the 70s, and it spurred him to get heavy into the band and see Xanadu multiple times in theatres. Then he collected all the post-ELO projects Jeff had done, such as Armchair Theatre and the two Wilburys albums, and all of these became a very important part of my #childhood. Dad was always playing Balance of Power, Secret Messages, all three aforementioned albums, Discovery, and Out of the Blue regularly, and I grew up wanting to make music like all of those albums someday. My most #favorite song is "Calling America", a massively underrated #gem from BOP. There's just *something* about that song that ALWAYS triggers #goosebumps and makes me feel inspired to write songs just as good as that. The lyrics have always been relatable for me as well. I hope someday to do that, and to also do a great version of it myself. Think of it as (almost) the "Be My Baby" to my inner Brian Wilson. Jeff Lynne's music has always been there for me, has helped me get through the hardest times, has fueled my inspiration, has turned me on to many other artists Bacon numbers-style, and I will always be thankful for that. I doubt I'll ever meet the man, but that's my #appreciation story about what his music has done for mine. Also... #10YearsOfDannyV, pt 22. There's too many people to accurately thank and tag in one post for this one, but needless to say if it weren't for meeting @benfromouterspace, @slamyates and all his friends, reuniting with @jordan_waters89, getting a #squad together that took over hella mics, playing Betty House with @barrykite and #WayneJetski, finding safe places to try new stuff at, and getting hurt emotionally in a way that forced me to #write songs again, I would NOT be playing #music and NOT be an active act as I am now. #2016 was an important year that helped me rediscover a LOT of things about my art, and I will always be eternally grateful to all of those who let my afraid-to-fail ass back in and do a big #comeback that resulted in, of all things, a MAMA award. #10YearsOfDannyV, pt 21. Most everyone around here knows of @josh_rosenblum. He's a great egg, a fantastic #musician, a hell of a smartass, an awesome drinking buddy and realistically one of the best acts in our area. This man's gone great lengths to help give plenty of people their start in some way or another, including me. After seeing him play in high school, I did my very first show with him. It was unique, and he gave me very important advice at the end of it. Since then I've had the honor to have interviewed him a few times, played sets with him, and generally watch him and his band progress over the years into solidifying their own sound and keep true to their own direction. His success made me very jealous for years, but I learned to get over it and let it #motivate me instead. Also pictured is @drewblum, Josh's older brother, also equal parts good egg, drinking pal, and friend. I first met him the night of my first show, and it was because of him I started going to the Queen Bean Open Mic more - a recognizable face helps with the nervousness of being in unfamiliar spots. Drew is also extremely talented, a fantastic multi-instrumentalist who was able to help teach me a few things about rhythm and bands when I was first trying to get one together on my own. His music is pretty experimental and his live sets these days are really cool to listen to, leading a band of jazz players but also adding his stylistic touch to it as well. He was one of a few local players I looked up to starting out as well. Needless to say, I can't imagine where I'd be as an act if I hadn't met Josh and Drew. #10YearsOfDannyV begins today! And in all honesty the first person I have to thank (and usually do) is my first voice teacher Mr. Underwood. As a kid, I spent almost all my summers in elementary school taking his chorus class, and then when I was in 7th grade, he was also my choir teacher. He was one of my favorite teachers and one of the only nonfictional people I looked up to. It was his class that made me want to pursue singing and music in general further, and for that I will always be eternally grateful.
