divided by ocean

home was a city i had never been to in arms i had never felt around me home was in words and in dreams i found my comfort in “someday’s” my hopes in wishful thinking and my inspiration in a soul the closest i got to holding your hand was wrapping mine around a coffee mug that fit almost perfectly into the curve of the palm of my hand the closest i ever got to touching your skin was running my fingertips over the ink your pen left splayed on a page from your journal my heart knew you but my body ached it was then i stopped romanticizing metaphors of the ocean and started cursing it for separating my flesh and bones from my heart and now with each crashing wave that gets pulled back out to sea i feel it pushing you farther away from me my dream will always be just that and my home will forever be pulled out with the tide
