Greens Senate candidate Cate Faehrmann on mining, dust and Hunter jobs
As the leading third party and party of protest, you might expect the level of disenchantment with both the ALP and the Coalition will lead to a bumper election this year for the Greens.
But much analysis suggests that in fact the Greens are facing an uphill battle to maintain their influence. The Coalition is aggressively preferencing away from them and all the major parties are trying to pin certain unpopular environmental initiatives – not the least of them the carbon tax – on the Greens.
Throw into the mix a whole heaps of small single issue parties and today an accusation that the Wikileaks party is nothing more than a front for the Greens and the picture is very muddy indeed.
NSW Lead Senate candidate for the Greens Cate Fahrmann is in the Hunter today to launch the local campaign with Greens candidate for Newcastle Michael Osbourne.
She spoke with Aaron Kearney about how a 'Green' future would impact local jobs in the Hunter region, and whether miners are collatoral damage for a clean-energy future.
