I, uh… I think this is the most batshit thing I’ve seen lol
So, just to clarify, 13 degrees of warming isn’t like, “oh, it’s a bit warmer.” 13 degrees is like, India having constant heatwaves above 50 degrees, 30 degrees in places like the UK, 40 degrees in large cities like New York… also, mass crop failure is suspected at 2~3 degrees, like hell we can just “adapt.” While things like CRISPR make me more optimistic in the short time, until we can magic crops that can withstand sweltering heat, I don’t see any way 13 degrees is survivable.
Batshit. Who is “we?”
Actuaries project billions of deaths at 2-4 degrees, so…
Um, Antarctica, maybe.
Well, that’s a mistake; placing any trust in global leaders who care about nothing but the next election. It doesn’t help that the leader of the world superpower and richest economy thinks climate change is the “biggest con job ever.”
Climate change isn’t always gradual. Trigger some real bad feedback loops and shit hits the fan quickly. 3 degrees by 2050 isn’t that big of a stretch.
Theoretically, maybe, but we kinda need fossil fuels for our modern society. For food (fertiliser), medicine, to house people, etc. If we could find a way to feed, clothe, house and care for 8 billion (and growing) people sustainably, then we’d have a shot. Better yet, convincing the 1.5 billion people in the North to shrink their lifestyles. I know a good chunk of people who say they care, eating meat several times a day, booking holidays several times a year and driving their cars constantly while buying trash from Temu. Good luck.
*facepalm*

S: After hours of staring at our computer screens, we realized that the time was flying past 10 pm, and we still hadn’t gotten any dinner. We got up, managed to put some pants on, didn’t bother with any make-up or beautifying and headed to Place Jourdan to check out what was still open. We stumbled upon a wine bar called “13 degrees” ; cozy, small, warm and inviting. Tinted yellow lights shined above us as we tried to translate the menu off of the chalkboard in the corner. We ended up getting hummus with tapenade (olive paste), as well as a smoked salmon salad and smoked salmon toast. We paired our meals with a glass of wine each. I went for a white, sweet, Spanish wine and Lindsey had an Australian Pinot Noir. It was a better last minute dinner than anyone could have really hoped for, and we enjoyed our food in awe. Still can’t believe this is all happening.
