Bach’s ingenious 14 Canons, based on the bass of his Goldberg Variations. Explained in this wonderful video, and played on harpsichord. We can hear Bach progressing into new harmonic styles, yet his music was falling out of fashion by the 1740′s. It is astonishing how we consider him ahead of his time, while his contemporaries viewed him vice versa.
