I noticed you mentioned 17 a few times for haylor. Do you know what harrys 17black tattoo was ?

Harry got the 17Black tattoo around 14 August 2012. The Tattoo Artist, Kevin Paul, has spoken about it three times. In the video below that it was after he lost a lot of money gambling in Australia. Which did happen, they were in Australia April 2012 (2 months after turning 18 - Australia's legal gambling age). It was the same trip as the NZ girl kiss.... so a time. Niall said:

Like most of the stupid things we do, it seemed like it was a good idea at the time. We thought it was funny. We just thought, 'We're 18, this is the first time we've been able to spend a bit of money in weeks because we've been on the road. In all honesty, I didn't have a clue what was happening. I won £100, which seemed reasonable, then I stopped. I'll have to say, 'No comment' about the others. Let's just say it got a bit ugly and a lot of money was lost. A lot.  When management found out, we got a serious dressing-down.

If the number 17 is connected to 7 as Harry's number... Maybe, GQ theorised it was related to the James Bond betting method in Diamonds are Forever. I have watched that scene today and don't understand gambling well enough to know. To them Kevin Paul said:

I was tattooing Ed Sheeran and he said that his mate Harry wanted to get one. At that point, I thought it was just a normal friend, so he gave him my number in order to sort it out. I went around to one of Harry’s houses on a Sunday morning and, actually, he had completely different ideas to what we’d originally discussed.” So why 17 Black? “Basically, Harry lost money gambling – I think it was in Australia – and he lost it on 17 black. This was in the early days, the first few years of One Direction.

There is another quote from Kevin Paul, from when it was first seen, (the gambling quote is much later) here, via Sugarscape in 2012:

“They’re really personal to him – the reasons he had them done and stuff, so he doesn’t really want to announce what they are. I’m doing him a half sleeve which he doesn’t mind people knowing about. We’re doing that now, so over the next week or two I’m gonna draw that up, send him the pictures over and then I’ll go back down and start it up. One was something from his childhood, and another one was something really important in his life. There’s nothing on his collarbone, it’s at the top of the arm to begin the sleeve. I tattooed Ed Sheeran as well – who did a little locket on Harry’s hand, like a little padlock thing. They didn’t really have to stop because of the pain, it was all pretty small things really so didn’t take too long.”

17Black may either be the personal or family thing.

Hi! Do you know what’s the meaning behind the 17black Harry’s tattoo? Or what’s the interpretation accepted by most people? I read it’s about when Harry get scolded after lost a great amount of money for playing (with that number which is James Bond number on an old movie) on casinos but I’m not sure

Hi anon! I don't know about all this casino thing, but I think there's two major theories for the 17black tattoo.

1) James bond reference, Harry is a fan of James Bond and this is his go-to roulette number on the movie. So, it's a lucky number.

2) There's a trilogy of books written by Richard Rider called Stockholm Syndrome, the second book of the series is called 17 Black & 29 Red. It's about a gay couple. This one can be a massive coincidence though, but I think it's funny.

And of course, there's that theory debunked several times about the 17 black restaurant that matches with the stag... so who knows! People also added up Louis' x-factor number at some point and made the connection. I wouldn't be surprise if the tattoo have a double meaning or something, so all theories can be right lol

Gina, english is not my language so I will never completely understand what the tattoo artist said. But I read that he said harry was sad when he was in the band? And that he wasn’t happy with louis and liam. I read this on a harry account. So can I ask you if it’s true? Is that what the tattoo said? Sorry for my incorrect english

Hi, sweetheart. I think the first thing to remember is that this is a person who met Harry in person once. He’s talking about his impressions of who Harry is and how he felt based on that one meeting and on stories that were told to him by people that he said were part of Harry‘s close circle. While he may be telling the truth, as he knows it, it doesn’t mean the stories are 100% accurate.

Second, he never said anything about Liam and Louis. What he said was that he got the impression that Harry was sad (his exact words were that he “had an air of sadness about him“) and that he had been told that Harry wasn’t happy “within the One Direction band” and with the people in the band. And the broader story he was telling was that it seemed that Harry was very stifled in being able to express who he was as a person and that in seeing him now, he seems much more free and happy.

It’s not entirely clear what he meant or what he was told about what Harry was frustrated with. But the gist of what he was saying was that a he had some shitty people around him (very specifically, Lou Teasdale, and her boyfriend at the time), that he had been thrown into this industry with very little protection, but he was a lovely person, and he had nothing but good things to say about him, and that he seems much happier and much more able to express who he is (and he specifically use the word “flamboyant” When describing how H is now).

As a sidenote, he remembers Harry being “19 or 20“ at the time, but we know that the tattoo was done in August 2012. So Harry was 18. And this was a time just before their incredibly harsh closeting was beginning, just before H*ylor was set to take off. So Harry’s sadness and frustration all make a lot of sense to me.
