Danny and Dash lay on their backs in the grass, looking up at the stars together. 

“Have you ever broken a bone?” Dash asked. “I have.”

Danny turned his head and looked at Dash. “I don’t think so. I have accelerated healing but I’m not sure how fast it would fix something like that.”

Dash hummed, still looking up at the sky before his gaze met Danny’s. 

“Do you ever regret being Phantom? You get thrown around all the time and hurt and no one’s even grateful for it. I…” Dash ran a hand through his hair. “I couldn’t imagine being able to do all that on top of school and everything else.”

Shrugging, Danny turned onto his side. “I mean, I don’t exactly manage it all very well. But no, I don’t regret being Phantom. Yeah, I get thrown around during every fight but… there’s something freeing about it.

“No one knows who I am, I have people who adore me who don’t think I’m a loser. Flying is the coolest thing ever.” Danny smiled. 

Dash’s face fell. “Danny, I-”

“No, you don’t need to keep apologizing.” Danny said sternly. “What happened happened and we can never change it but what’s important now is that you’re here, trying to be better. Actually being better.”

“But I was such an asshole.” Dash said, turning his head back towards the sky and flopping his arms out at his side. “I had no excuse for everything I did. I did all that to someone I considered my friend! It’s just…”

Dash sighed.

“I wish I hadn’t been like that. If I hadn’t started spreading rumors about you maybe I wouldn’t have gotten to the point where I was wailing on all the nerds.”

Dash felt Danny lightly place his hand in his. He turned his head to see Danny still watching him.

“Maybe you should apologize to them too.”

Groaning, Dash ran his other hand down his face. “You’re right, oh my god. This is gonna be so awkward.”

Danny shrugged and scooted closer to Dash. “You were awkward when you apologized to me but look at us now.”

Dash chuckled and gently gripped Danny’s hand in his own, gently running his thumb over Danny’s knuckles. He stared up at the stars as he felt Danny softly rub his fingers into his palm. 

“Yeah.” Dash said quietly. “Look at us now.”
