Bony 1898 Hat

Down the rabbit hole I go. Today my skeleton is wearing a little 1898 Hat, my go-to winter pattern when I lived in Wisconsin.

A few years ago I knit an even smaller version (last photo). This one is altered to fit the skeleton, whose head isn't proportionally the same as a human skull.

I’ve knit many 1898 Hats, but only the first two have been for me. This is the second, pieced together from leftover Frog Tree yarn. The narrow lavender stripe in front is my favorite. The 1898 Hat headband takes half the total project time if not more. For the crown I spiraled the black tweed with leftover green/brown/blue Minerals of Knit One Crochet Too’s Ty-Dy Wool. Not too colorful, I hope. The headband portion of this 1898 Hat. Next, graft ends together, fold in half, and pick up stitches around both layers. The humps in the first photo become earflaps! I‘m resisting the urge to make the crown colorful.
