Vince Clarke on Michael Jackson’s “Dangerous”

Michael Jackson - Dangerous

This was the first record of his that I liked. I think it's really aggressive, in a good way, and hard. I always associated with Michael Jackson with all the Thriller stuff, which I didn't really like, but I thought this was a real step out from that safe zone that he'd been in. I'm not a Michael Jackson expert, but this is one of those records that you have to play really really loudly. The production on it is amazing. Apparently we did one of those award ceremonies, what are they called in the UK? The Brits. That's it. I was there with Alison [Moyet, Yazoo vocalist] and he was there and I don't really remember, because I was into not being starstruck, and Alison saw him and she leapt over the security guards and gave Michael Jackson a massive kiss, it was really funny. All the security guys were looking on going, "What the fuck was that?' I think there's a picture of us with all these really famous people like Paul McCartney, all lined up looking like geeks. I guess Dangerous was the closest he got, not to my style of production, but a more synthetic sound. © Vince Clarke, The Quietus (19/12/2013)

MICHAEL JACKSON DANGEROUS (EPIC, 1991)

I was never particularly a big Michael Jackson fan, I wasn’t into Thriller, but when I heard the single Jam being played on the radio I thought, ‘that sounds pretty damn good’, so I went out and got Dangerous. I would play this so friggin’ loud. Some of the traks on the album are pretty hard-sounding, not angry so much, but they’ve got a real... if you were ever to first-pump to a Michael Jackson record, this would be the one. Am crezut ca daca ma scufund in vina si ma condam pentru greselile mele, am sa pot sa imi iert ca te am pierdut. In fiecare zi aveam alta varianta a ce se intampla. Am gresit, recunosc. Sunt trista, dar fericita ca am descoperit 2 persoane false in viata mea. Tu mi ai zis ca ma iubeai si la cateva zile erai cu alta + increderea oarba in oricine altcineva decat in mine. Si ea, persoana care ti a spus lucurile pe care le crezi despre mine. Nu am sa regret ca te am cunoscut sau ca am inceput sa te iubesc, e bine ca s a terminat acum si nu mai tarziu cand putea sa fie mai urat. Iti multumesc pentru atentia data si afectiune, sper sa ramanem amici.
