1908 - Mr. and Mrs. Larsen

After much convincing from Sylvia, Clive finally relented and allowed Helen and Sigvald's marriage.

The wedding took place in the park they ran off to for their first date, where they promised they would one day be wed.

The wedding was small, and only the couple's families were invited.

Following the ceremony, Helen left her family's home to move in with her husband and his younger sister, Milda.

Isabel Marquez: 1900s Lookbook

Isabel is almost a teenager, so before she ages up I felt I wanted to post her lookbook too! Isabel is the youngest of the 3 Marquez siblings. She is outgoing and makes friends easily, but also enjoys creative pursuits and helping in the family’s garden. She is closer with her older siblings than her parents, as both of them adore her. Isa loves to dress in the feminine fashions of Edwardian girls. (Again, Isabel’s swimwear look is the same as her athletic look.)

1907 - The Twins' Birthday!

Francis and Dorothy Miranda have finally turned thirteen years old!

In celebration, Sylvia and Clive have agreed to host tea with the kids and their friends.

Francis and Dorothy decided to invite Amzie, whose been one of their closest friends for years now. Sylvia didn't mind, Amzie is a sweet girl. She'd hardly been present a moment before Sylvia began squaring in on her.

As Francis takes a seat, he catches the tailend of Sylvia begging Amzie to consider marrying him one day, and he swears he may die on the spot of embarrassment.

Outside, Helen was enjoying a more "private" tea with her guest, Sigvald. Clive and Sylvia don't care for the boy one bit, but Helen is stubborn, and doesn't seem to be keen to give up anytime soon.

Dorothy, who is ill, retires to bed early, and Helen decides to join her family inside. Naturally, Sigvald followed. Sylvia is surprised to discover how genuinely kind the boy is and quickly falls victim to his charm.

Perhaps it wouldn't be so bad an idea, she decides, to sway Clive's favor. He wouldn't be the worst son-in-law...

1906 - The Newsboy

Now that she's out of school, Sylvia often sends Helen out on errands, so she can prioritize watching the children. On one of these trips into town, this time to pick up some groceries, Helen's eye is caught by a particular newsboy in the town square.

Wrapping up her haggling as quickly as possible, Helen musters up as much confidence as she can, and sets off to introduce herself to this boy. Successfully, she invites him to a drink in a local tavern.

She learns his name is Sigvald Larsen. Sigvald's parents immigrated here from Sweden shortly before he was born and passed away last Summer. Sigvald sells newspapers to support himself and his younger sister.

The pair talk for hours, Helen can't believe it- she's never felt so understood by somebody in her life! Sigvald is very kind, complimenting her temper well. He's also very well read, and invites her to go looking for constellations with him as the sun sets.

Despite her better judgement, Helen agrees to join Sigvald to the park. She knows her mother is going to kill her for this, but right now she doesn't really care! Helen's missed the social life she had at school, she has a million things on her mind worth talking about and Sigvald is all too willing to listen.

As soon as she learned to read, Helen stuck her nose into any love story she could find. Maybe this is what those books were talking about.

They leave eachother in the early hours of the morning with a promise: they will be married as soon as Helen's parents allow.

When Helen get's home, Sylvia is waiting by the door, worried sick. She barely listens to her mother's lecture, much too focused on the memory of the newsboy she met in the town square.

1903 - Goldie's Birthday

In 1903, on New Year's Eve, Goldie turned six and was finally aged up into a kid!

Goldie is outspoken and stubborn, never giving up without a fight. While she's not as smart as she thinks, her confidence gets her far, and she's a true expert at talking her way out of any trouble- from teachers and parents alike!

Adela Marquez: 1900s Lookbook

An early 1900s lookbook (circa 1903) for Adela Clara Marquez, the oldest child of Arturo and Valeria. Adela has recently started school at Oasis Springs’ one-room schoolhouse. She is creative and spends time drawing, playing chess, and taking care of her little brother, Manuel. (Her swimwear look is the same as her athletic look so I didn’t include it.)

Sorry this took so long!

It was interesting to try to create a working-class lookbook. A lot of historical CC is high fashion, so I tried to capture what the everyday person might wear. The Mulligans are an Irish-American family in turn-of-the-century New England.

Manuel Marquez: 1900s Lookbook

A mid-1900s lookbook for Manuel as a young boy. Manuel is the only son of Arturo and Valeria Marquez. He sometimes feels forgotten as the middle child and he and his older sister Adela have learned to take care of themselves. Manuel is more outgoing than his older sister.
