Assignment 2
Part 1.) I feel that the piece was an utter waste of time on the applicants behalf since she even states that the colleges don't care about you if you have not hit certain milestones or done specific things on a “check list”. I think the proper response would be to accept the loss and utilize the knowledge she now has on what it takes to get accepted into a “dream” university by building up her college resume then apply again. I believe the way that she attempts to use satire is wrong and can come off as quite disrespectful. The use of satire also makes it seem like she is making excuses one after another for her short comings. I also think that her mindset is flawed in the sense that she just offsets the blame onto anything/ anyone when in actuality it is non other than her fault. If things were so bad then it is up to her and her alone to make it better. For example the swimming portion. I too was once in the position where I was ready to give up but, through my own determination and taking responsibility of my life, I was able to become the best at 100m, 200m breaststroke, and be the anchor on the best medley relay in the district.
Part 2.) I think the professor had every right to dismiss the student since they were late. It is basic common sense that if you are late past single digit minutes you are a disruption and extremely late. The proper way to have done things would have been to email the professor at least a week in advance so he had some idea as to why the student would be so late. I also believe that although the email seemed to follow a formal format, the phrasing and the basis of the email was informal. One thing that would have made it better is to remove emotion and also use correct format with certain dialog like the list created in the middle of the second paragraph. The numbers were pointless and could have been either been removed or used in bullet point formation. I personally think this email should have been an apology since it was a disruption caused by the tardy student and no-oneeslses fault. On top of that the student didn't even pay for that class so what gives her the right to be in there in the first place?
