I saw the painting 'Miss Edith Fitton' by Sir Frank Dicksee in this post, and the lady in the picture reminded me of my OC Melissa, so I decided to redraw it with her.
If you were wondering how my version of the painting came to exist in-universe: Renée painted it!
A character was knocking around my head for a rather long time and finally putting her design to paper. Her name is Bernadette Doubtfire.
Bernadette is a trans woman living in New Chicago, working at a department store under a male front so she'll be paid better. She's a very good friend to Honey; Bernadette took Honey under her guiding wing and basically helped her in the early days of her transition. Bernadette actually admires Honey a lot for living so openly and brazenly herself, while Bernadette is still a bit insecure about her looks despite being essentially a KNOCK OUT. But they'll often go out on the town together-Honey's extroverted nature helps Bernadette's confidence and Bernadette being there helps Honey take cues on how a lady of refinement behaves in a social situation.
Bernadette is kind of the melancholic type, but honestly working retail does that to a woman. She is also being haunted by the ghost of her dead neighbor after taking the typewriter the land lord was throwing out of his apartment before the surviving kin seized the apartment. She wishes that typewriter would stop running by itself when she's trying to sleep.
