Recipe #98 - Oat Biscuits from The 1940s Experiment

These are a pretty standard biscuit recipe, except I used a reconstituted dried egg instead of a fresh egg, and oats are added along with the flower.  I also threw in some currants, but a lot of them fell off during baking.

These are simple and satisfying and not too sweet.  I am also learning - I made sure the oven was a little cooler and checked them frequently towards the end of cooking so I could rescue them before a bunch burned in the hot corner of the oven.

I'm starting a new... diet?  That's not really what it is, but it's the closest thing.  It's based on the rationing during WWII, particularly in the UK.  Since I'm vegan, most of it doesn't apply to me, but some do.  Here's what I'm going to attempt each week:

226 g (8 oz) of sugar (fruits don't count)

113 g (4 oz) of margarine

113 g (4 oz) of other oils

113 g (4 oz) of sweets and candy

57g (2 oz) of jam

3 pints (48 oz) of milk-- soy milk?  not sure how to calculate this as my soy milk is pretty sugary and I don't want to live exclusively off of coconut almond milk.

I probably won't ration veggie burgers/meats, but I'm not sure yet.  I'm very driven by fun, so everything tends to get made into a game.  EVERYTHING.  I play Zombies, Run! every time I go out for a run, and I listen to podcasts or pretend I'm on the hunt for Slenderman on my commute.  This seems like a good way for me to get down to a healthy weight, since I LOVE history and always pretend to be a time traveler.  Anyone have experience with this?
