What is the 1D Kink Fest?
The 1D Kink Fest is a fic fest where the prompts are very simple - just a single fetish or kink to be featured in a work of fanfiction however you wish!
But, what is a kink or fetish, anyway?
A kink is defined as an activity that veers away from the sex that society traditionally considers "acceptable” - an unconventional sexual taste or behavior. It is something that one may or may not include in their sexual behavior as a way to enhance pleasure and subjective experience. A kink can turn you on, but you don’t necessarily need it for sexual fulfillment. BDSM is a common umbrella term that many kinks fall under, and they are not always sexual in nature. Non sexual kinks tend to focus on power exchanges and mental aspects of this kind of play.
A fetish, on the other hand, is “a form of sexual desire in which gratification is linked to an abnormal degree to a particular object, item of clothing, part of the body, etc.” It is often said that someone with a fetish needs said item in order to achieve sexual gratification.
All that being said, we here at 1D Kink Fest aren’t sticklers for definitions. If you want to take something ordinary and twist it into something spicy, call it whatever you want!
How does the fest work?
Each author will choose one kink or fetish (henceforth will be written as k/f) from a list of possible options, or sign up with their own. The chosen k/f must then be largely highlighted in the author’s fic.
Each k/f will be given to one person only; however, other k/fs may be included in the fic as long as it is clear which one is the focus. For example, maybe Harry is a submissive who wears a collar, likes to be spanked, and enjoys feminine clothing, but the fic is primarily about the kink of overstimulation. The other k/fs should just be extra and not the main idea.
What about the prompt submission and author sign up process?
We have come up with a list of possible k/fs that you can find here. Prompt submissions are now closed.
Those who want to participate can fill out the form and include a k/f (as well as several backups) that they might want to use as the focus for a fic. It can be a k/f from our list or something new. (If you’re worried about your idea for a k/f being similar to something on our list, feel free to reach out and ask us about it.) After receiving the sign-up, the mods will then let the author know which k/f of their choices has been assigned to them. K/fs will be assigned on a first come, first serve basis.
Are there any rules?
There are no rules for submitting prompts, and you can submit as many as you want. Regardless, with this being a kink fest, it only requires you to submit either a kink or a fetish, as simple as Daddy Kink or feet fetish. There’s no need to come up with a fleshed out prompt, or specify a trope. Please make sure to read through our k/f list first to avoid submitting the same or similar prompts.
As for sign ups:
You need to be 18 years old or over to participate.
The minimum word count is 2,000. There is no maximum.
At least one current or former member of One Direction must be a main character in your story.
All kinks and fetishes are allowed, but fics must fully focus on one, which should be the prompt you sign up with. If you choose to include different k/fs than that from your prompt, it must be clear which is the main one.
Non-sexual kinks are welcome. But since kink is for adults, we require you to tag your fic as mature on AO3 even if it does not contain sexual acts.
On that note, fics must be tagged appropriately. That way, readers can decide whether or not to engage with the content.
Using a beta is not required but strongly recommended.
Fics must be completed upon submission. If you happen to need an extension, please message us.
All authors are responsible for their own fic posts, which should include a moodboard, gifset, fanart or original fic visuals of some kind. However, you can reach out to us if you need help with it.
What is allowed?
Just about any k/f that you can think of is allowed here. The mods are not moderating content.
All pairings are welcome, including girl Direction.
Though we are not considering it a specific k/f, writing ABO is allowed.
You may write with a co-author.
Writing more than one k/f in your fic is allowed, as long as only one remains the clear focus.
You can write up to two fics for this fest, but please keep in mind:
You cannot write two fics with the same primary k/f.
If your second k/f is uncommon and not on our list, feel free to sign up whenever you want using a different sign up form.
If your second k/f is on our list, we ask you to please wait until the end of sign ups to see if it’s still available. This is to prevent people from hogging several popular k/fs for themselves.
