i completely agree that anthony and vale feel similar, bc of their commitment to the devil may care lifestyle, where they differ is vale’s expression of it can be villainous (said with love) and self serving in turns, while anthony is all about the experience of life lived fully, does that make sense?

right….both pretty cocky, irreverent, aware of their own charisma, but with a moral code about respect and kindness where due (i say as a certified vale apologist). both people who Loved to live life…but also similarly after pursuing and experiencing so much of the world, both seemed to come down on the idea that what is really fulfilling at the core is connecting with people, spending time with a few friends. i feel like both were also pretty reflective about place in the world (because they love the world) and that is where for vale as you said it becomes much more self centered (focus on legacy, at times destructive lol), where for bourdain it took the form of bigger questions. I’m not really going anywhere with this…just to say RIP anthony bourdain
