Matchup "Analysis" - Maomao vs. Characters pointing out/implying her relation to Lakan
Pictured: Maomao's strongest psychic attack, the "evil eye"
Evaluation Criteria: The character points out or implies her relation to Lakan, then the magnitude of Maomao's retaliation (or lack thereof) is loosely translated to "psychic" damage (or physical, in the case of some) that actually hurts them, based on my expert interpretation.
Light novel spoilers up to LN15, and most of this was done by memory so I may have forgot some parts. And warning, this might just be complete nonsense.
The Emperor - Called her "Lakan's daughter" and she just had to roll with it, she ain't gonna argue with the Emperor. She could've theoretically gotten away with pushing back because the Emperor is too scared to make Lakan mad, but taking advantage of that fact would mean acknowledging her link to Lakan so she wouldn't. And besides, no matter how buddy-buddy she gets with the Emperor, she'll always have at least somewhat of a self-preservation instinct. Thanks to Mandate of Heaven granting him OP defenses against lower class mages, Emperor leaves completely unscathed, zero psychic damage.
Shikyou - Just rolled his eyes like "Oh boy, some girl who hates her dad, how cute" and only mildly entertained her with a "Sure, let's go with that." Like the equivalent to letting a little kid punch you for 0 damage just to let him feel satisfied. And keep in mind, he said this right after Maomao told him he's a black sheep who's terrible at raising his son (he did ask her to be honest), a statement that didn't offend him at all. Shikyou is unscathed on account of being too old for this shit. No psychic damage.
Chue - Deep inside, she's aware that Maomao getting closer to Lakan would only help them out in the long run. She lightly prodded her in the second Western Capital arc to play nice so Lakan remains pacified. Maomao fought back and gave her a scowl "nearly as grim as the one she’d fixed on the strategist" (which sounds similar to the evil eye though not quite the same), but Chue's carefree attitude surely made it roll right off her back. Chue resists all psychic damage 'cuz her mental walls are too strong.
En'en - "I guess the La clan is full of people like that, folks like you and Master Lakan." Maomao just got a little irritated and asked her not to say that guy's name and she eventually relented. Minimal psychic damage, plus she's got experience with and knowledge of Maomao's quirks already.
Rikuson - She pretty much hit him with the "You seem like a nice guy so I will just let you off with a warning." Minimal psychic damage. Speculation: Given his famous feat of trolling Jinshi without being fazed or punished, he likely has the mental fortitude to resist Maomao's evil eye if he ever tried pushing it again.
Lihaku - We didn't get to see her give him the evil eye, but it certainly fazed him quite a bit. He's a living tank so even he can withstand the big psychic damage. Decently injured but he'll be okay.
Jinshi - Gave him the evil eye, we saw it visually in the manga and anime and it was nasty. Manga version (pictured above, left) is just instilled with the purest, soul-sucking dread while the anime version (pictured above, right) is outright violent. And worst of all, Jinshi was caught entirely by surprise. Immense psychic damage to both him and the viewer. Hospitalized.
Lahan - Any time he calls him a sister implies relation to Lakan, so it counts. And besides, she will crush his toes for pretty much any reason, not just suggesting she's his sister. Forget psychic damage from the evil eye, Maomao's self-proclaimed weak ass is capable of physically damaging this paper mache man on a regular basis. He's dead.
Lakan - Maomao is incapable of inflicting psychic damage on him because he just adores her too much. He would simply absorb the evil eye. However, Maomao can compel him to ingest literally anything, knocking him out with ease (IIRC she has done that multiple times). She can even physically subdue him; LN14 demonstrates she's capable of kicking him across a room. So yeah, Lakan is dead, but purely due to physical damage, not psychic.
Note: Should mention that Jinshi saw the evil eye early on in their relationship, and as I mentioned, he was caught by the element of surprise, putting him at a disadvantage. It's likely that in the later novels, with additional prep time, training from the Emperor, and Maomao's character development weakening her evil powers, Jinshi would receive much less psychic damage upon telling her she's related to Lakan.
