THE AIRPLANE ANALOGY
Date: 2 November 2023
Duration: 55 minutes at 10:23 PM
Depth:
This was a progressive meditation! There was one ‘first time’ moment. It’s incredible that even after 2 decades of a practice there are firsts to be experienced. It’s almost as if life energies that are running in a meditator won’t stop until the meditator has experienced the Infinite.
Air travel is the best analogy I can come up with, to explain my present phase of meditation. Occasionally, in my non-meditating regular waking hours, I give attention to the centre of my head and I immediately break into a frown free smile.
To be precise, my attention goes to the central base area of where I think my brain is. And I have been consistently breaking into a smile. The feeling is a combination of a relieving distance from all sorts of troubles and looking forward to what’s coming next.
It is like clearing the security at the airport with still a bit of time on hand. While you know the gate you have been assigned isn’t too far, so you can allow the duty free shop to catch your eye. You know you are leaving. You know your travel is inevitable, like you had planned and prepared for it. All the stress you felt in getting this far is leaving your mind and body. And you smile back at the larger than life stuffed toy displayed in the duty free chocolate shop.
Every time I am placing my attention at the centre of my head, the feeling of being cleared to fly is distinct and real. Of course, the flight I have prepared for, is a spiritual one. This is my present phase of a decades long habit. In fact, last night I had a mind expanding moment. It was almost as if the wheels of the spiritual plane in take-off had left its frictional contact with the runway.
The moment the wheels of a plane lose contact with terra firma, the feeling associated is a relieving distance. I felt that in one moment during last night’s meditation. Closing this spiritual diary styled blog entry with lines from Taylor Swift’s Shake it Off:
But I keep cruising
Can't stop, won't stop moving
It's like I got this music in my mind
Saying it's gonna be alright
