Distractions
The students in the convent are not fed well, and they are not allowed to talk during meals. One of the “big girls” reads about the lives of the saints while they eat, and any girl who talks during the meal is forced to lick the floor.
There is a woman in the convent, Madame Albertine, who may or may not be a ghost. Once, she addressed a priest directly during mass, but then immediately became like a ghost again.
One year, the girls hear someone playing the flute from the other side of the wall a few times a day, and they all fall in love with the musician. Some of the girls climb up onto the roof and find that the musician is an old, blind, poor man playing in his attic.
