DEMOCRACY AND VIOLENCE: AN ASSESSMENT OF THE IMPACTS OF KALARE THUGGERY IN GOMBE STATE, 2003-2013

The switch from carbs to FI came at the expense of throttle response (much more abrupt) and some surging during steady cruising. The chain final drive might evoke GS envy in some, but those who spend a lot of time off road will happily put up with the added maintenance in exchange for the lower weight and complexity compared to a shaft.
Both the 950 and the 990 come with 18-inch rear wheels and 21-inch fronts, reflecting the brand’s dirt orientation. (Comparable-year BMW GSs ran on a 17/19-inch combination.) These tire sizes make real knobbies available but tend to limit choices for pure street tires. Despite its skinny treads, the Adventure handles adroitly on paved roads, thanks to top-quality WP suspension, great balance, and powerful brakes.
The KTM Adventure attracts riders who gravitate toward wild places, so it’s not uncommon for used ones to look a little less pampered – as if they have actually been used off road. Reliability reports swing between those whose bikes require constant fiddling to keep running (fussy owner syndrome?) and others who beat them like rented mules with no issues whatsoever. The cooling system, especially the water pump shaft and seals on the 950, features in reliability complaints, along with the clutch slave cylinder.
The KTM Adventure is often seen as a less glitzy but more capable alternative to a BMW GS, and it’s fair to say you’ll see a higher percentage of them with dirt residue in their nether regions. As such, watch out of broken plastic and bent rims (both of which have to carry inner tubes) as well as for suspension and undercarriage damage. Plus, scratched plastic and, if you’re lucky, stylish dents in the optional panniers. You won’t pay extra for that dirt cred either. Year for year, a KTM adventure is valued 20 to 25 percent below a GS. - Jerry Smith
Adventure biking matches with the KTM 950/990 Adventure. But it can be a little dangerous and accidents may lead to serious injuries or even death. Regarding safety concerns, choose and wear Just1 helmets for during your adventure biking.

Cheers
Has the chops to back up its Dakar-inspired styling and off-road racing heritage. Can tear up a paved back road too.
Jeers
Minor yet persistent reliability issues undermine its reputation. Needs regular maintenance.
Watch for
Signs of water-pump failure (coolant in the oil), leaky seals, abrupt throttle response on injected models.
Verdict
Serious adventure tackle for serious adventure riders.
