Top 5 non-single tracks of 2011.
Before I post my official album and singles list, I feel the need to share five songs from last year that weren't singles. I don't know if it was out of sheer stupidity, ending album campaigns, or whatever else, but these songs were worthy of mentioning:
5. "End of Time" - Beyonce
I remember sitting around one day about a month after 4 came out, and humming this song. I still don't know why I did, but I went and listened to it, and didn't stop for the rest of the day. When I think of Beyonce at her best, this is what I think of.
4. "All This Time" - Joe Jonas
I heard the 30 second preview of this a few weeks before Fastlife came out, and I turned it off. I knew just from hearing this song that the album would be nothing short of excellent. Sadly, Joe let me down. But this song is one of my most played of the year. It's the perfect combination of slick R&B mixed with Joe's endearing vocal delivery.
3. "Killer Love" - Nicole Scherzinger
Hands down the best song on Killer Love was the title track. With Nicole shouting over a massive RedOne beat, this song can't get much better. I still don't know who is choosing songs like "Right There" over this stomper, but they are sitting on something great.
2. "Inside Out" - Britney Spears
I can't believe this wasn't a single, but on the other hand, I understand. It's radio friendly, while also remaining the perfect album track. Britney sings about a last rendezvous with a lover before finally ending it. It's one of the highlights of Femme Fatale, and Dr. Luke has outdone himself with this one.
1. "Off & On" - Sophie Ellis-Bextor
Just when you thought Rihanna and Calvin Harris were the perfect match, Sophie comes along to try and steal the crown. While Sophie and Rihanna are still fighting for that Calvin crown in my mind, this is a worthy contestant for it. The perfect intro shoots straight into Sophie singing about a deadbeat man. I've had a music video in my head since I heard this song, and let's just say the end moments involve her in straitjacket cooing those last few lines.
