Win Elections or Win the Argument?

I really do not like the statement from Gov. Chris Christie. I think the people want someone who can win the argument, but they need to explain it in a manner that is easily understood by the public to win over the middle of the road voter. Maybe convince even some Democrat voters. Gov. Chris Christie did win in New Jersey and I think you have to be a "RINO" to win New Jersey in this current political climate, and no one would call Gov. Chris Christie a true conservative. It is also bad taste to bash other people in the same political party publicly.

Argument Against Gov. Chris Christie's Statement

It took Ronald Reagan 3 times to win his first presidential term. He ran in 1968, 1976, & 1980. Every time Reagan lost, he supported whoever the GOP nominated afterwards. In 1968, Reagan basically was testing the waters. Then it was a nail-biter in 1976 when Reagan almost stole the GOP nomination from the GOP establishment candidate, Gerald Ford, with 1070 delegates for Reagan & 1187 delegates for Ford. Finally in 1980, Reagan beat out incumbent President Jimmy Carter. He did such a tremendous job as president those first 4 years, that it was basically a "no contest" win in 1984. He kept to his principles and Reagan kept building momentum every time he ran for president.

By the way, what was President Reagan's nickname? "The Great Communicator"

On Voting

There's a reason I didn't vote today-

I'm disgusted with the pride in cheap stickers

and the pressure

the comments

I can't fathom saying

My mother

my grandfather

my ancestors

for decades

fought for this... They fought for the right

to go to the gates of hell

curtained and manned by

deaf old women

who ask

which circle would you like

fill in one

there's nine evils

I can't tolerate those who

want a revolution

yet support the government

in this small way

I can't, no matter how much pressure is

placed upon my civic duty

People say, "Vote Wisely." But how?

I'm just wondering *again* Haha. People say, "Vote Wisely", but how can we be sure that the person we are about to vote is someone who do have the adequate skills to lead the barangay towards progress IF the only qualifications imposed by the Comelec for the barangay officials are the following?: 1. A citizen of the Philippines; 2. A registered voter of the barangay where he intends to be elected; 3. A resident therein for at least one year immediately preceding the day of the election; 4. Able to read and write Filipino or any other local language or dialect; and 5. In short, the Comelec simply states that as long as the candidates are registered Filipino voters who can read and write, then they are already qualified.

BUT ARE THEY REALLY QUALIFIED?

It does not even require candidates to be college graduates, nor to have their background checked publicly or to present their achievements in public such as the various seminars and training they underwent, if there were, before they decided to enter in such noble profession.

Today, where poverty and corruption had gone worse, I simply find the aforementioned qualifications severely irrelevant since it does not seek for highly effective, trustworthy and competent barangay leaders. Amendments must be done for the barangay officer qualifications.

As of the moment, how I wish every barangay has a huge bulletin board where EACH candidates' profile explicitly and honestly show the candidate's educational attainment, the training and seminars they had, PLUS an essay answering the question 'Why should you be our public servant?'' OR in the future, where most households have computers and internet already, why not make a government website where all candidates' profiles are uploaded? *To eradicate the hassle of checking the huge profile board I mentioned a while ago* I believe these to be more reasonable qualifications; and better campaign style as well than those loud, baseless, and irritating campaign songs. Through these, people will be able to choose with basis, or as they say, vote wisely, and strain those 'unfit' candidates, allowing more responsible leaders to take the front seat. Thus, helping our barangay achieve more positive developments for the betterment of the lives of many.

I am not criticizing nor degrading those candidates who haven't finished college. I simply desire to have the best leader for our barangay. Also, these are just thoughts from a would-be-voter. So, corrections, comments, suggestions, or rants are highly appreciated. Just express yourself in a nice way. Thank you.

I do not regret voting for better roads and schools.  I do not regret voting for job security, human rights and foreign aid.  I do not regret voting for gender and marriage equality.  I do not regret voting for parties and policies that were not ashamedly flaunted for free across most of our media.  I do not regret voting for NBN.    Today, I will begin campaigning for the next election. If there is only one positive thing I can take from Tony Abbott being elected PM, let it be that I am more motivated to get involved in politics than ever, to bring about positive change for our country's future. Hopefully, I am not the only one out there.
