"The Forest" Review

Yesterday I saw 2016 "The Forest" with Natalie Dormer. Well, what can I say, I did not like the movie very much. Not that I hated it, but it was far from catching my heart. If I had to describe "The Forest" in one word, it would be dull. The plot, I deem, was mosly supposed to rely on suspense and protagonist's descent into madness. I saw it, however, the problem is, I hardly felt it. Somehow, eerie atmosphere of world-famous Suicide Forest ruined the effect of insanity rather than increased it. I watched the whole movie with a blank face. Mayhaps the characters rousing little emotion had great deal of it as well. I mean, a woman goes into the Suicide Forest to look for her sister, it drives her insane, nothing else thrilling about her. I did not feel connection to the protagonist or any of the movie's characters. Ghosts, or Yuri (is that how they were called?..), as well as cadavers of suicide victims could have added more sharpness to the film, but failed. Perhaps because the part involving them had too little screentime, or, more likely, was poorly tied to the whole plot. On the last note, final twist, which should have had my jaw dropped, merely raised my eyebrow.

Overall, the movie was not terrible, but certainly could have been better. As I said, it fely rather dull.
