Snippet: I woke myself up late that morning, which was a glorious reality for all of two minutes, then I yawned and remembered I was being treated like an invalid. Clawing the sheets off me, I got up and went to the window. The training yard was full. Even the kids were out there. Brand's voice thundered into the room as I shouldered the window open. Literally thundered. (Last week, Brand had criticized one of Corinne's training techniques. She was so pissed that, in a masterclass move, she bought him a bullhorn, and now we were all pissed at him.) "Wind sprints! Wind sprints", he was bellowing. "Run run run! Now a crocodile is after you! Crooked sprints, crooked sprints, crooked --- Corbitant Dawncreek do not turn around to make friends with the crocodile! There is no crocodile!" I smiled and sat down in the window seat.
