Happy Valentine's Day, all. Thanks for filling my year with so much love and support. Snippet: I peeked into the kitchen. I don't know what I expected to see. Mounds of wrapped red candy boxes? We didn't really do Valentine's Day, but there were a lot of kids in the house now, and kids like candy, so my brain was optimistically drawing out a lot of elaborate equations that led to me getting candy too. Brand was sitting at the table, tapping a box against his crossed knee. A red candy box in the shape of a heart. "Fuck me," I said. "Are you confiscating that?" He narrowed his eyes. "No." "That's from Addam, isn't it? Are you making him exchange it for fruit?" "No," he repeated, growling. Brand slapped it on the table and slid it toward me. "No. It's for you. From me." I sat in the chair and stared at the box. My first thought were grenades. "Look," Brand said in frustration. "It's real chocolate. Do I need to apologize again?" "Wait what? Apologize? There's an apology here too?" "Maybe I'm acting a little like a dick when I talk about your Dad bod. Maybe you don't know I'm okay with exactly how you are. Which would be stupid. You've blown up two more buildings - it's not like muscle or a waist helped you do it. So Happy American Greeting Card Day." Then he ran off, because he was already sensing the great sludge-like wave of emotion threatening to stream from my end of our bond.
