March 17, 2026: King Felipe and Queen Letizia paid an official visit to Jaén to mark the 1,200th anniversary of its status as a capital. Accompanied by Spain’s Minister of Defense, they were received by regional and local authorities at City Hall, where the King was presented with the ceremonial staff and both monarchs signed the Book of Honor. They also received symbolic gifts representing the city, including local products and artwork, before greeting residents during a walk through the historic center.
The visit continued with a stop at the Tourism, Culture, and Heritage headquarters, where they toured an exhibition dedicated to the anniversary, and concluded with a visit to the Arab Baths Cultural Center, one of Jaén’s most important historic landmarks. Through this visit, the King and Queen expressed their support for the city in a milestone year that celebrates its rich 1,200-year history while looking toward its cultural future.
