Here’s my sweaty, weird, tomato 🍅 face and half marathon medal for today! 2 hours 38 minutes! Not bad for a 48 year old stage 4 breast cancer patient with severe bone metastasis and a broken neck. …if I do say so myself. lol. I’m pretty thrilled with my time. If I can shave another 10 minutes off, I could potentially do a marathon (under most 6 hour time limits).
My best half marathon time ever was 2 hours and 4 seconds.)
The day was beautiful. Everyone was in good spirits. No grumpy participants that I could see. Everything seemed well organized. Just lots of people. I think there was 10,000 runners. There were some pretty areas that we got to run through, too. (Not just all residential.)
I’m so glad that I made the goal to train and to only get myself to the start line. It relieved a lot of the pressure to finish this if I suddenly felt unwell.
Health-wise, things went okay. I started to get a pain in the left hip and it was because I was getting lazy and “falling out of form”. I have to run almost like a statue and not move out of the position for the duration the race or things will just start to fall apart. I also made sure to stop and drink water or an electrolyte at every aid station. They had these gummy bars that I tried a long time ago but haven’t used for over 7 years. I decided to risk it and eat one when I needed to pull out a hydromorphone pill (which felt weird to do at a race). I didn’t want to have the pill on an empty stomach. Luckily, it was fine. The brand is called Xact Nutrition. They actually taste pretty good and worked well for me.
At the moment, I feel a little stiff and sore but nothing out of the ordinary from what I felt after past races.
Anyway, after the race I went to Starbucks for my decaf americano. Then I grabbed a bus to my aunt and uncles. I showered and the kid and I packed up. We called an Uber home because I wouldn’t have been able to handle the super long bus ride back. So now we’re home and already had dinner. I’m cuddled under my electric blanket wondering if I should read a book or continue to watch Workin’ Moms on Netflix. Maybe, both. 🤔
