hey :D could i ask a bit of advice with gif making? i'm currently making homelander gifs and want the quality to come through. when i began making gifs like 10 years ago, i captured the screencaps in VLC and imported them to photoshop that way, though i see now some folks create screencaps in photoshop itself. i wanted to ask, which is the best way? you're probably really busy so it's ok if you don't get chance to reply. your beautiful gifs def inspired me to begin making again after so long. thank you <3

Anyway, I never heard of creating screencaps right in photoshop, if it's possible, which I doubt, I do not know how to do it.

Maybe you mean using import video frames to layers

But the video should be the correct format, not sure about the full list of supported formats cos I don't really use it, but mp4 works, if I remember correctly AVI also works.

Then will appear a window where you can choose the moment you want to create a gif from

You select a range and drag those two tiny things under the slider and photoshop will create frames only from that chosen scene. And then you have it ready

You can edit them one by one, but it's much easier to convert it to video timeline, choose all the layers and convert for smart filters to edit them all together, like sharpening. I explain it here much better

I use mpv player for screencapts, the link to it and how to install it - is here , it's pretty easy. Then just follow either tutorial above, using scripts to load files into stack, which seems too long now, I don't use it anymore, but it's an option

The easiest way to upload screencaps to PS is 'image sequence', so you make screencaps, you can either create separate folders for each gif screencaps or just rename them, so they are in the same folder but with different file names.

In case you create a separate folder, you just throw all the screencaps for that one gif in that folder, then open file in photoshop (ctrl+O), find that folder

Select one of the layers, better start with the first one, but if you choose the last one it will work as well, and check image sequense

Choose frame rate, I just leave what it says. And you will have this

Now you can edit that one layer the same way as if you converted layers to smart filters, tbh you can convert that video group layer for smart filters too and work as usual. It's the same

Why I said better to select first screencap is that if you pay attention there's missing screencap on screenshot above, when you have a gap between screencap titles PS will tell you about it when you use image sequence

You press continue and screencaps will be uploaded with that gap, which means you will have an empty layer in your gif. Like when you make frame animation it will be like this

So, you either title everything in order, or select the last layer maybe, that way it doesn't say anything about the gap and loads them the way they are without gaps in the gif either. I suggest to not have any gaps and to not skip screencaps at all.

If you don't want to spend time creating separate folders for each gif screencaps, you can work in one folder, just title the screencaps for one gif with something, like I did

So now if I select first layer titled a (1).png and use image sequence it will load ONLY everything titled with "a" and the next number in order, so the rest with b(1), b(2)...etc won't be touched.

When you finish editing it, convert for smart filters and make frame animation, then set time and save it. (explained in the tutorial above much better)

Well, all these methods serve the same purpose, it doesn't change quality of anything uploaded based on the method you chose, at least I didn't notice the difference in the result. I think image sequence is the best because it's the faster way for me, I am used to making screencaps using mpv player and it takes less time to load than using scripts. To use video import method, I need to convert the video to the right format first, which takes more time than making screencaps for me.

So, if you already know how to make screencaps, (or try to install mpv, but I suggest getting older version, maybe 2023 or 2024y version, cos the newer versions tend to create duplicated screencaps), I suggest using image sequence to load your screencaps to PS and then edit it the way you want.

For the quality I can suggest using the best video footage you can get. Use 1080p videos and above, also the size of the file also matters, if you can get 5gb episode instead of 1gb episode - the video quality will be so much better.

The boys are hard to color, considering all the dark scenes, all the green\blue\yellow filters they use, so... good luck :D

9. tell a story about your childhood

when my brothers were younger they was in little league (baseball league for kids 9-12). my mom wanted to drag me to the opening ceremony for it one year, and as the oldest sibling and a massive hater of both my brothers (not rly their fault, i had rage issues) AND sports, i was NOT having it. but i had no choice, and so i seethed in the car and in field, until the moment they announced one of my brother's names and i shouted "BOOOOOOOO" at the top of my lungs for every single parent and child to hear in this huge outdoor field with absolutely nothing to disguise the sound. my mother was LIVID (i was like 15-16 so i really Was arguably too old to be doing that shit but the hater's curse was too strong inside me to care), but she did not make me go to any of their sports events ever again. it was over a decade ago and ftr my brothers and i are cool now lmao.

18. do you believe in ghosts and/or aliens?

yes and no? i believe that, given the understanding of the world we have now, the "essence" that makes a person who they are has to go SOMEWHERE (bc energy cannot be created or destroyed it can only change form etc), and that it is extremely unlikely that humans are the only "intelligent" life Out There(tm). BUT, i have a hard time believing we're right about what ghosts and aliens look like or how they behave, etc. our concepts of them only exist within the bounds of our understanding, and we HAVE no concrete understanding of ghosts or aliens right now, you know what i mean.

27. any nicknames?

i've never rly had nicknames outside of jst like. normal shortenings of my name gfhdfghsdgfdfs and even then only my brother calls me char really

2. Is there a Pokémon you hate / dislike?

NOT REALLY... i try so hard to see the joy in every pokémon!! every pokémon is someone's favorite, and i try to see them that way!! even pokémon i dislike situationally tend to endear themselves to me somehow!! i try to love every pokémon as much as i can :D

i don't like pawmot though. fhHFKFH. i just wish it was more visually distinct from pawmo! it doesn't look like a fully evolved pokémon, to me. BUT. i will give this time to change, because i used to feel this way about kilowattrel, but the horizons anime changed my opinion on it!! which is always how it seems to go. Something will grab a mon and make me appreciate them!!

8. Who’s your favorite baby Pokémon?

...i really like riolu. i actually prefer riolu's design to lucario's, actually! and lucario was baby liz's favorite pokemon back before gen 5 and the zoroark movie came out (before gen 4/the anime/movie it was bulbasaur). but i really like riolu's design, it's very fun!! and while i am not the biggest journeys fan, i actually really like ash's riolu/lucario!! little guy...

14. What’s your favorite Pikaclone?

OUGH... god this is kind of hard, because i don't have a Ton of thoughts on the pikaclones very often, but i also. really like a lot of them. i think dedenne is my favorite!! i love bonnie's from the anime, and when playing scarvio nowadays i carry a dedenne in my utility team, alongside my breloom for catching pokémon! bc i really like the pickup ability, and dedenne is just. fun little guy!!
