I know you've heard it from me before. You're going to hear it from me again especially today.
Just yesterday I got word that one of the guys I served with for years with didn't make the call when he was going through shit. Instead he decided to check out and become one of the 22.
Now me and several more of us are having to get together and face his family and do our best not to feel lower than fucking whale shit for not doing something to stop it. Then after we lower him into that hole in the ground, we'll all get away from everyone else, break open a couple of bottles of scotch and toast the memories we have with him.
Tell you what. I'd damn well rather have him sitting there with us sharing those memories and the scotch.
I'm saying this to each of you and I really want you to listen. If you EVER start thinking about checking out, giving up, whatever the hell you want to call it. Before you do, PLEASE CALL SOMEONE. There's always someone willing to listen. Even those assholes that flew with you and spent so much time giving you shit stuck in a damn jungle far from home. Yeah, you gave as good as you got, but it made you family and family will still be there when you need them.
Don't just give up. Make a call. If you suspect someone might be withdrawing, make a call and check on them. You might be the one they need to hear from.
