There’s a pretty sobering PSA playing on TV in my state.

Had a family member waiting in the ER with a friend of theirs overhear a man calling around and telling his family goodbye

He was in the early stages of a heart attack (chest pain and the like) and the triage nurse, as kindly and gently as she could, had already said they probably wouldn’t be able to get him back in time.

A man was in the process of dying, right next to life saving equipment and professionals, and too many beds/people were dealing with COVID patients (also in the process of dying) to treat him. My family member had to leave before she found out if he made it or not but….how horrid….to be alone and making goodbye phone calls when it should be easy to keep you alive.

There was a news report about the same hospital trying desperately to keep a different man alive in the waiting room and being unable to. Having to wheel his dead body to the morgue after hours of waiting for a bed and equipment that never freed up.

Please go get your vaccine if you’re able, please.

My hospital is in chaos because of unvaxxed fucks, not to mention the staffing crisis. They frequently have to put beds in hallways because all the rooms are full, so imagine you’re bleeding out from a car crash and they have to dump your ass in the hallway because there’s no where else to put you. Long story short; your abs are supposed to be covered with a healthy, protective layer of fat. The shape Jason Momoa is in during his movies is achieved by a diet designed to lower his body fat to unhealthy numbers, dehydrating him and enhancing his abs with make up. This is what ripped, muscular, healthy person looks like on their off time. If you think this is a dad bod, for the love of everything that is holy, shut up and absolutely never comment on a man’s body ever again. I mean hell, you can still see his damn v-line, what fucking dad bod has that?!

Don’t believe me? Google some bodybuilders who are off their contest diet. The men who literally make a living for having defined muscles. For 360 days a year, they do not look like the way you think they do. During a bodybuilding contest, these men’s body fat is under 7%, they’re dehydeated and covered in fake tan that helps the muscles show up. And it’s literally only for that day, because it’s extremely unhealthy. Same goes for actors who are known for being ripped - they’re at their worst when they’re filming. This exact same shit happened with Vin Diesel few years ago with people getting a paparazzi shot of his “beer belly” and I’m genuinely worried of the young men who grow up in this society thinking being muscular means having defined abs 24/7.

Every infantryman I know has a gut. We drink beer, we don’t sleep right and we eat like crap.

We can also carry 100 pound ruck, 60 pound body armor, ammo, rifle, water for 50 miles at a steady 9 minute mile for days and be ready to fight as long as we have caffeine, nicotine and have some vague idea of what’s expected.

No abs, no cut muscles, no captain America body. Just a body trained to work on absolutely nothing that would make a body builder quit 4 minutes in, continue to function after being shot and blown up on 2 hours sleep.
