The days before multi-million dollar contracts: Jackie Robinson receives the keys to his new car from Bill "Bojangles" Robinson in Ebbets Field on September 23, 1947. The gift came to him on Jackie Robinson Day as the Dodgers celebrated their newly-clinched National League Championship. At left is Robinson's wife, Rachel. Robinson also received a television set, a $500 watch, an inter-racial goodwill plaque, and cash gifts.
