I have been doing some research on pop music and this song is a good example of today’s pop. It has the classic chorus--verse--pre-chorus--chorus--bridge structure that is seen in a lot of pop music. The song establishes the main theme in the form of a riff on the piano then goes into the verse which is a very common technique in pop. Using the hook at the start of the song is a good way of familiarizing the listener to the chorus so they become more interested in the song. This is better than going straight into a verse as it doesn’t have the same attention grabbing catchiness as the main riff or chorus section.

Pop

For my following blog posts I will be focusing on a 70 Bar Pop Standard. I will be posting examples and detailed screenshots of my work. Basically pop comprises of short to medium length songs written in a basic song structure (verse-chorus) with repeated choruses and repeated melodies.
