Early mornings are not just Doyoung’s enemies but are yours too.

You had to get up slightly earlier than usual today for work which you’re used to by now, but usually, during the colder months, you found it a bit hard to. Not just because you didn’t want to pull yourself away from Doyoung’s snuggles whenever he stayed over at yours, but because the bed was way too cosy and warm to want to leave.

You understood why Doyoung didn’t want to leave the other day when he had to leave early for work.

But it’s fair to say that both of you are secretly quite clingy with each other.

After a while of sitting up on the bed and staring into space with random thoughts, you finally forced yourself out of bed and got your day started.

You managed to have a bit of time to spare this morning, and since Doyoung had to wake up soon, you figured you would make his portion of breakfast.

Lately, Doyoung has been quite busy with his schedules. You never want him to start a busy day with an empty stomach nor skip any meals, so sometimes if you had some time to spare in the mornings, you would make him breakfast or lunch for him to take with him on the go.

This is one of the little things that you like to do to let Doyoung know that you care and love him a lot.

While you were having breakfast, a random and silly thought came to mind. You decided to write a few messages on sticky notes and place them on a few things that you know Doyoung would come across. Also, hopefully, to start his day cheerfully.

You contemplated putting one on his forehead as a joke. Still, you hesitated to do so in case he woke up on the wrong side of the bed, aka Doyoung waking up in a bad mood for whatever reason.

However, in the end, you decided to go ahead with it.

You wrote on one and carefully placed it on his forehead.

“Doyoung, please don’t kill me” you thought to yourself

Doyoung wakes up a while later, having to get ready for another day of schedules. He pouts as he looks over to your side of the bed, now empty, letting him know that you’ve already gone to work. He kicks the duvet off him and heads to the bathroom to get ready for work.

Doyoung sloppily walks to the bathroom and rubs his eyes, clearly still very sleepy. He goes up to the sink to brush his teeth, but before he does, Doyoung does a double-take at himself as he notices a sticky note on his forehead when he looks at the mirror in front of him. Looking confused as ever, he takes it off his forehead to see what is written on it.

A smile grows on his face as he shakes his head at your antics.

As Doyoung makes his way to the kitchen, he spots something sitting on the countertop, covered up. He takes a closer look and sees another sticky note on top of it.

Doyoung pops on his coat and shoes before doing one last check on himself at the mirror you have placed beside a coat rack in the hallway.

There again is a sticky note on the mirror, which Doyoung spots and reads.

Eyes slowly opening, you wake up from your sleep. The urge to use the bathroom is here but the bed is too warm. You let out a quiet yawn as you rub your eyes, feeling very groggy as you stare at the ceiling.

“Ugh I can’t be bothered to get out of bed” you annoyingly thought to yourself

You turn your head to the side, taking a quick glance at a sleeping Doyoung next to you but do a double take when you notice something different. Though his back is facing you, you can see him shaking slightly.

“Is he having a bad dream?”

Sitting up on the bed, you lean towards him and shake his body slightly to try and wake him up, whispering “Doyoung” in the process. A groan coming out from him.

“A fever?” you thought to yourself

Taking the back of your hand, you place it on Doyoung’s forehead and immediately take it away as you feel the warmth of his skin.

“You're burning up” whispering to yourself

You quickly get out of bed and head to the bathroom to grab a damp towel. Also going to the toilet since you were there anyway. Going back to the bedroom, you place the towel on Doyoung’s forehead, hoping that it’ll cool down his temperature a little.

You then make your way to the kitchen to grab tablets and a glass of water. When you get back to the bedroom, Doyoung is already sitting up on the bed, holding the towel in place, a pout forming on his lips.

“Here, take this” you say as you sit on the edge of the bed

Doyoung passes the towel to you and takes the tablets and water from your hands. Once he’s finished with it, you see him shiver as he hugs his own body. You take the glass from him and put it on the bedside table.

“Are you cold?”

Doyoung nods his head in response and lies back down on the bed again. You open your wardrobe to take out a thick blanket and place it over the duvet he is already tucked under.

“Can you hold and snuggle me please?” Doyoung asks quietly as you jump back into bed

Doyoung gets extra soft and clingy whenever he’s unwell and you found it absolutely adorable.

“Sure, we can snuggle if it will make you feel better” you chuckle

Doyoung moves closer to you and places his head on your chest. You wrap your arms around him and he does the same to you. Doyoung sighs in content as you play with his hair; fiddling with a few stray pieces which makes him drift back to sleep and hoping that the fever will go away when he wakes up later on.

Your eyes shut from Doyoung's soft touches across your cheek. Still wide awake but have no urge to fall back asleep.

You and Doyoung are still in bed, despite waking up earlier. Usually, you'd try to sleep a bit more, but you couldn't fall back asleep even if you wanted to, so you and Doyoung just cuddled up to each other in silence, playing with each other's hair and taking in each other's features up close. Also, it would be best if you guys were getting out of bed soon to start your day.

Since it's Christmas Day, you would usually head over to Doyoung's parent's house for dinner later on. However, Doyoung has a schedule during that time, and so you guys decided to visit earlier for lunch.

The fact that someone like Doyoung loves you even more than you love yourself still surprises you.

As those thoughts continue to run in your head, you're absentmindedly staring at him, bringing tears to your eyes. Doyoung's smile turns to a frown due to you not saying anything for the last few minutes.

“You don’t want to marry me?”

You can hear the slight hurt in his sentence, but he just misunderstood what you were trying to say and quickly reassured him.

"What? No, of course, I want to marry you! I just wasn't expecting it, you know? It's like, what? 8 in the morning? I know we've talked about wanting to get married in the future. I'm just… Kim Doyoung, you left me speechless."

"I seem to have that effect on you a lot", Doyoung chuckles as he moves a few strands of hair away from your face. His fingers play with them.

The first few tears fall from your eyes, and you wipe them away before Doyoung can. His fingers linger on the side of your face before cupping your cheek in his palm. You nuzzle against his touch.

"Thank you for always being there for me. Seriously. It's crazy to think how 4 years have gone by since we first met. Who knew that bumping into you would be a life-changing thing." Doyoung laughs at that memory

"Sometimes, it's difficult to put into words just how much I love you. So, whenever I say that I love you, I say it with all my heart. You've been there for me, from my most vulnerable times to some of the happiest ones. Even when there were times where I pushed you away for whatever reason, you still stuck by me, always promising that you wouldn't ever leave me, and you never did. Not once. And I thank you for that. When I think about the future, all I see is you. Like you once mentioned, we could get a house somewhere in Jeju, start a family one day and grow old together. You're one of the most beautiful people I've ever met, inside and out. You're my best friend, my soulmate and my everything. And hopefully, my wife as well. So, Y/N, will you marry me?"

At this point, you're already a crying mess. You nod several times before just barely letting out the following words from your mouth.

Writing all of this was a challenge and dragged out a lot longer than I intended to (I started this in March/April and it’s now December 😬) but it is finished! I had a lot of fun writing everything; it’s not perfect and there’s a lot I could improve on but it was a good challenge I set for myself! The beeping of the front door lock resonates throughout the apartment.

Doyoung just came home after a schedule. Ideally it’d be easier if he went back to the dorm with the rest of the boys but he missed you and wanted to be by your side. He wanted to go home to you.

The whole apartment is quiet. All the lights are turned off which tells Doyoung that you’re asleep.

He makes his way to the bedroom as quietly as he can, opening the door slowly. He spots your sleeping figure on the bed, curled up under the duvet with a slight pout on your face. Doyoung smiles at the sight of you; you look adorable and he just wants to jump into bed with you as soon as possible.

He puts his bags down next to the door and grabs his pyjamas and heads to the bathroom to take a shower and gets ready for bed.

It’s 3:30 in the morning and you’re awake, sitting on your balcony while staring at the very few cars passing by in the distance.

You’ve been sitting here for around half an hour now as you’ve been struggling to fall asleep ever since you got into bed a few hours ago.

You stared at the ceiling blankly, but with thousands of thoughts running through your mind. Seems like it was one of those days where you just couldn’t stop thinking and kept asking yourself countless questions. Your mind just wouldn't switch off. You forced yourself to close your eyes and even tried the so-called sheep counting trick. Yes, it's made for kids but worth a try.

Unfortunately it didn't work. If anything, you think you just made things worse because you’re now more awake than you were half an hour ago and somehow find yourself questioning; can sheep jump over fences? Have you ever seen one do it before?

You decided not to stay in bed anymore and so cautiously got off the bed, into your slippers and made your way out to the living room. Also you didn’t want to wake Doyoung up from his wonderful sleep he seems to be having based on his little snores so might as well.

You grabbed a book and a blanket from the sofa and sat outside on a little cushioned bench you have on the balcony.

You’d think it’d be freezing cold in the middle of the night, especially in November but the air was a bit warmer than usual. Just a light breeze but nothing that made you shiver.

You had a pretty nice view of the city and if you focused further, you could just about see the ocean. It’s so peaceful at night time which is why you decided to sit outside.

You started reading the book, hopefully to clear your thoughts and make your mind focus on something else but it didn’t work. You just ended up re-reading the same page over and over again so you put the book to the side and just looked at your surroundings.

A while later, you start hearing faint dragging footsteps that seemed to be coming from inside. You turn around to look in your living room and see a pouty Doyoung slowly making his way towards you.

You look up at Doyoung with slightly wide eyes, a bit surprised that he's up

“Why are you up? Go back to sleep” you question as you hold onto his left arm, lightly swinging it back and forth

“I could ask the same thing to you” Doyoung says looking down at you as he yawns and rubs his eyes

You scoot to the side a little and lightly tug the end of his sleeve, telling him to sit down.

Silence fills the air. Nothing is said between you two briefly but you answer the question he had on his mind.

“I’m just a bit worried about the future, that's all”

Doyoung grabs your hand and intertwines it with his, placing it on his lap. His other hand starts playing with your fingers.

“You don’t need to worry, you have me. Tomorrow is also the future right? I’ll be here tomorrow and the day after and next week and next month and next year”

You chuckle lightly at his words as you continue to look at the view in front of you

“I know you don't really like to talk about these things sometimes and that's ok. I’m not going to force or pressure you to talk about it right now, but I hope you know that I'm here to listen whenever you want. Do know that I'm here by your side. Always. Through all the good and the bad that's yet to come ok?”

Tears fill your eyes, feeling emotional from what he said but grateful. You turn your head to him, nodding and smiling in response, having been slightly lost in words.

Doyoung places his hand on your cheek, rubbing his thumb gently before extending his pinky out to you.

“Here, let's make a promise”

“What are we, 7?” you snicker

Doyoung pouts at you but before he could protest, you lock your pinky with his before giving him a quick peck on his lips.

“I love you”

“I love you too. Come on, let's go back to bed”

Doyoung takes your hand, both making your way back to the bedroom.

Tucked under the duvet on a warm bed in your lover's arms. You're feeling a lot better than you did a few hours ago, all thanks to Doyoung.

“Of course. Which song?”

“Any. I just want to hear you sing” you say as you close your eyes

Doyoung raved about a place he went to with his members to film a few videos at the top of a hiking trail a while back. They had to do some overnight filming, so they were up till the early hours of the morning. Since they were already up, they managed to catch the sunrise before heading back to their dorms to rest.

Doyoung remembers you talking about going hiking more, so he suggested taking you on the trail when you both were free of schedules and today was the day. You were excited when Doyoung told you because you're the type of person that loves to connect with nature and get away from the city. It's also an opportunity to get away from your workload and spend time with Doyoung too.

But it meant having to wake up at 5am and leaving as soon as you could to catch the sunrise.

However, you were willing to sacrifice a bit of sleep if it meant having to witness one of the best parts of the morning. Doyoung knew how much you loved those and wanted to take you there, so he set several alarms for 5am the night before just in case either of you overslept.

Honestly, you probably didn't need to wake up that early, but you were the type of person who would hit snooze a dozen times before you were willing to even sit up on the bed, let alone get out of it. Even if you did, you constantly find yourself sitting on the toilet for a good 15 mins, questioning your life choices before you start to get ready. Hence the reason for the several alarms.

Luckily today, you naturally woke up before the first alarm sounded. Maybe you were excited about today's adventure.

However, Doyoung struggled to get up even though he was the one that set all those alarms up. Usually, it's the opposite way, so Doyoung found himself scrambling off the bed as soon as he heard his alarm go off for the fifth time, followed by your voice.

“Kim Doyoung wake uuuuppppp” you whined out to him as you stood beside the bed.

“I’m up. I’m up!” Doyoung pushed you slightly to the side as he quickly walked to the bathroom. You chuckled as your eyes followed him to the bathroom.

While Doyoung got ready, you packed up a backpack with some snacks, drinks and some other bits and pieces in case of an emergency. You and Doyoung got some breakfast in your system before heading out.

So here you guys were, already about halfway up on a hiking trail, aiming to get to the top of it, where supposedly it's one of the best sunrises you will ever see in Seoul.

"Doyoung, this better be worth the early get up," you say as you're picking up your breath, whereas Doyoung is already ahead of you, motioning you to hurry up.

Doyoung looks back at you while you chug down some water. He walks back to you and crouches down in front of you. He waits for you to hop on his back but turns around when he doesn't sense you move but instead stands straight back up when you tug in his arm.

“No piggyback, I’m fine. Let's go.”

Though you first refused, he ended up giving you one anyway because you tripped on a few rocks and almost fell face down on the ground. Luckily, with Doyoung's quick reflexes, he manages to hold onto you before you do.

He also didn't want you to scrape your knee like last time when you clumsily tripped on a rock. It's what happens when you don't pay attention to where you're walking.

Doyoung is careful as he's focused on what's in front of him, ensuring he doesn't step on anything that could make him lose his balance. At the same time, you're taking in the surrounding greenery that appears more and more amongst the city's high rise buildings. You can hear the chirping sounds of birds and feel the light breezes of the December morning air.

You whip out your phone from your pocket and start recording random videos and taking selfies. One of the selfies you take is of you surprising Doyoung with a kiss on his cheek. As you stare at the photo, a smile grows on your face, deciding that this will be your new lock screen.

It's not long before you guys finally reach the top of the hiking trail. Doyoung gently places you back on the ground, and you make your way towards the railings, doing a few stretches to loosen up your muscles. Doyoung follows along.

You made it just in time to watch the sunrise, with a few minutes to spare as Doyoung checks the time on his phone.

You can see the sun peeking through the bare branches of the trees. Colours of oranges and yellow with a slight hint of pink illuminate the morning sky, with very few clouds in sight.

“Ok, this was definitely worth the early get up” you say to Doyoung

As you continue to look at the bright and beaming sunrise, you take a deep breath and lean your head onto Doyoung’s shoulder. He grabs hold of your hand but scrunches up his face.

“Babe, your hand is so cold!”

Doyoung rubs his hands over yours, bringing some warmth to it. He brings it up to his lips and places a kiss on it.

“Keep warming it up for me with your kisses”

“My lips are going to freeze” Doyoung protests

Lifting your head, you jokingly slap his arm.

“Stop being so dramatic”

“Stop being so cheesy”

“I hate you” you grumble as you lay your head back on Doyoung’s shoulder

“I love you too” Doyoung chuckles before placing a kiss on the crown of your head

Early mornings are Doyoung’s enemies.

Doyoung was supposed to be up half an hour ago. But as soon as he heard the annoying sound of his alarm, he hit the snooze button and told himself “five more minutes”.

That was 30 minutes ago.

Those “five more minutes” turned into another five and another five and another.

It’s one of the disadvantages of staying over at yours instead of his dorm when he has a schedule the following day especially when he has to get up early for it.

As much as Doyoung wants to stay in the warm bed with you, he knows that if he doesn’t get up, he’ll be late for his schedules. He doesn't want his manager to wait for him downstairs for long and he knows that he’ll get a scolding from his manager telling him that he should’ve stayed at the dorms yesterday. He doesn't want to keep his members waiting either so he gently moves your arm away from his waist and sits up on the bed.

He stays there for a few minutes, trying to fight a few yawns as he rubs his face with his hands as he tries to wake himself up. The only sounds he can hear are his breathing and your little snores. Finally, he scrambles off the bed and gets ready to start his day.

Before he heads out, Doyoung goes back to the bedroom to give you a kiss goodbye.

He snickers at your silliness as he sees you now occupying the whole bed. You’re still sleeping, legs sprawled out across the bed as you lay on your stomach. The duvet is only covering half of your body as the other half is just barely on the bed. One side of your face is squished down on the pillow, cheeks slightly puffed out.

Doyoung approaches you and crouches down beside the bed. He moves the hair out of your face, gently tucks it behind your ear and places a delicate kiss on your forehead.

“See you later sleepyhead” he whispers as he strokes your cheek with his thumb

Doyoung picks up the duvet that’s about to fall off the floor and places it over your body again so you don’t get a cold.

He hates having to leave you like this when you look so warm and comfy in your bed and all he wants to do is to jump back in again and cuddle the shit out of you but he has his schedules to attend to. Even though he loves you very much he also loves his job.

He places another kiss on your forehead before quietly leaving the apartment.

As he gets into his manager’s car and drives off, Doyoung sighs and leans back onto his seat. His manager takes a quick glance at him and chuckles.

“I know how you feel. It’ll be fine. Time will pass quickly and next thing you know, it's the time when you can see her again”

His manager is right. Though it’s only been a few minutes, he's already looking forward to the time when he can be with you again.
