“24 Karrot Co.” Nathaniel Kent Animation Test #1

I finally got to finish this animation test for Nathaniel Kent laughing. This test is just before Punsy’s in the animation so I thought it would be fitting. Currently my goal is to get as many of the short shots done before the end of this semester as possible.

“24 Karrot Co.” Punsy Face Animation [WIP]

During the time I was near finishing the storyboard, I made the decision to animate SOMETHING in order to warm up my animating hand for this story/thesis animation. This is the result of that time spent.

My story is mainly character-based, dialogue-driven, and expression-intensive so I felt in order to prep myself, animating the mouth and face would prove important.

“24 Karrot Co.” Nathaniel’s Bunny Reference

Nathaniel’s form was merely formed from imagination and on the idea of what a rabbit looks like. I found it intriguing to look into what type of breed Nate resembles most. I came to the conclusion that Nathaniel is a Blanc de Hotot rabbit (seen above). However, this breed is apparently a medium-sized one, so I do imagine Nate being larger but just as slim.

“24 Karrot Co” Punsy’s Bunny Reference

Although Punsy was made to just simply be a cartoon rabbit, I felt it would be interesting to look at what kind of rabbit he most resembles, purely out of curiousity. I wasn’t very knowledgable of rabbit breeds (and I’m still not) but I consider Punsy to be close to a Holland Lop (in images above) in physical appearance (all except size, obviously). In weight and size, however, Punsy would probably be as large as a Flemish Giant (in link).

Edit: After exploring a bit in the world of rabbit breeds, I realized that the French Lop (in link) is probably the best breed to fit Punsy overall, despite the sandy fur color (which the Holland Lop suits best).

“24 Karrot Co.” Film Noir References

In the process of making this film, I’ve been continuously gathering resources for how I’d like to portray the film noir essence of it. Two big movies I watched were “Casablanca” (although not “film noir”, it has the same lighting style) and “Double Indemnity”. Story-wise, “Double Indemnity” was obviously closer to what I wanted my story to feel like (of course, without the femme fatale and “the twist” [as much as I’d love to add one, I don’t have time to do that for my Senior Thesis Animation.]) As of now, despite being in the “Production” phase, I still continue to look for reference to guide me along in my work.
