behold, have some highlights from my notes (most of these are me working through ideas rather than nothing actual ideas I have set in stone) then there in the middle is the entire arc one timeline and some backstories.

Day Four: A Filler Episode

It isn’t a date, not really.

Because Harry didn’t ask like that, not really, and Draco didn’t answer like that.

Harry refuses to be the type of bloke who creates a whole one-sided relationship in his head that crashes and burns a real life friendship. So Harry doesn’t rush to the loo at half three to fix his hair, brush his teeth, or change into something nicer. It isn’t like Draco hasn’t already seen him today. He just keeps filling out the expense report for a ridiculous sum of red bows and tries not to think about the fact that in under an hour he’ll know what Draco looks like in his home. He’ll never not know again. He won’t have to imagine what it would be like to see Draco on his couch, firelight playing across his face. He doesn’t know if he can live with the knowing. But it’s what friends do.

He can do this.

At 3:50 Harry breaks his pen nib.

At 3:53 Harry knocks over his ink well.

At 3:58 Harry gives up on finishing the report.

At 4:01 Draco knocks on his open door.

And, because this isn’t a date, not really, Harry doesn’t gush about how good Draco looks in his cardigan.

And, because Harry didn’t ask like that and Draco didn’t answer like that, Harry doesn’t get up and press reassuring fingers to Draco’s flushed cheeks, doesn’t remind him that nothing could make tonight go poorly.

Bloody hell, but Harry refuses to be the type of bloke who creates a whole one-sided relationship so he pries himself out of his head where he has thoroughly comforted Draco, and rejoins him in the present.

“Want to walk?”

Draco huffs a laugh. “And stroll under what they are attempting to pass off as antique streetlamps? See the Muggle holiday decorations?”

“Yes,” Harry breathes, imagining Draco pressed against one of those damn lamps, eyes flashing as Harry leans in to —

“I think not. At least, not today.” Harry tries not to look disappointed as Draco continues, “Can we floo to yours? I just want a glass of wine.”

Disappointment disappears instantly. How selfish of him! Draco’s been shouldering the majority of the planning and liaising. He’s exhausted.

“Of course! How did the meeting with T.W.I.K.L.E go? Oh, no, let’s go this way. We’ll sneak upstairs and use Hermione’s floo so you don’t have to fight the crown downstairs.” Harry ushers him deeper into the department as he listens to the disaster that was Draco’s day.
