Undead Romance

Romance isn't dead, It's just lost in the woods and nobody has seen them in years. People swear that if you stay out a bit too late You can hear them singing a memory slightly out of key.

I should know. I put it there.

I put romance out of my mind, For it is a tangle of briars and thorns And I have bled enough on its altar already.

I've tried to find the right person And I've stopped believing in the right person And I've stopped trying at all. But it still creeps into my thoughts, Finding their way out of the woods and into the cool night sky. And it is still dark, But there are enough stars to guide it back home.

I'm starting to wonder if there's a reason it keeps coming back from the dead, Even as I cut off its roots and dig a shallow grave. I don't know if romance is something that cannot be killed, Or if it is something that I cannot kill.

I wonder what would happen if it ever flowers. Would this thorn grow a rose? Maybe all it takes is a little more blood. Just one more bite from a fang. Just one more try.
