I’m 26 years old this week. Here’s some of the lessons I’ve learned along the way:
1️⃣ God’s timing is better than mine. Trust the process.
2️⃣ No one has it all figured out. Everyone is just doing their best.
3️⃣ Rest is productive. Burnout doesn’t make you a hero.
4️⃣ Say yes to the right things, not everything. Your time is valuable.
5️⃣ Character matters more than talent. Who you are > what you do.
6️⃣ People remember how you make them feel. Be intentional with your words.
7️⃣ Not all advice is good advice. Test everything, probably twice.
8️⃣ It’s okay to outgrow people, places, and passions. Letting go can be feeling. Growth requires change.
9️⃣ Discipline is for the Gym Bros. Figure out what works for you.
🔟 Your dreams are possible. No matter what anyone has said or made you believe.
1️⃣1️⃣ You don’t have to explain yourself or your choices to anyone. You are having a valid human experience.
1️⃣2️⃣ Hard work doesn’t guarantee success. Make sure what you’re working on matters.
1️⃣3️⃣ Money is a tool, not a goal. It comes and it goes. Use it to make life better, not for more stuff. Stuff does not make you happy.
1️⃣4️⃣ Your worth isn’t tied to your profitability. Capitalism is making us all sell ourselves as the product. You are valuable outside of what you can do for others.
1️⃣5️⃣ Forgiveness is freedom. Even if they don’t deserve it, you do. Let it go and move on.
1️⃣6️⃣ All people (even your boss and your president) are just people. They make choices and they aren’t always right.
1️⃣7️⃣ Sometimes, you have to do it scared. Tris from Divergent taught me that fear doesn’t have to shut you down, it can wake you up and make you feel alive.
1️⃣8️⃣ Kindness is free, but priceless. And everyone needs it.
1️⃣9️⃣ Failing doesn’t mean you’re a failure. Every mistake is bringing you closer to who you are becoming.
2️⃣0️⃣ Your people are out there. Don’t give up. You have to go out there and find them. My people are here, on Tumblr <333
2️⃣1️⃣ You can always start over. It’s never too late. Pivoting is a skill. Change course. Do it again. Find what lights you up.
2️⃣2️⃣ Joy is found in gratitude. Don’t wait for big moments to be happy. Say grace for warm food, shelter, milk, and honey. Always be thankful and there will always be hope.
2️⃣3️⃣ God provides. Even when you can’t see how, He makes a way. He’s waiting on you to make room for him.
2️⃣4️⃣ Slow progress is still progress. Take your time. Never do something because you should. Do it because you want to.
2️⃣5️⃣ Life gets better. 16 year old me wasn’t so sure. 26 year old me is here to reassure her (and you) that things are going to be okay. Just hold on a little longer.
2️⃣6️⃣ The best is yet to come. Keep believing.

As Eddie’s conversation lulled with May, he got up to grab a second plate.
Eddie wanted more of the chicken and the bean dish Athena had made. Maybe he’d get more corn too. He grabbed a cookie from the plate Buck brought even though they hadn’t gotten to dessert yet because they were sitting right there waiting to be eaten.
“I’d recommend the brownies Karen brought. I’ve already had like three,” Maddie said, sneaking up behind him.
Eddie chewed and swallowed before answering. “I like Buck’s snickerdoodles.”
Maddie smiled, “They’re kinda hard and flat… I love my brother, but snickerdoodles are not meant to resemble crackers.”
Eddie shrugged. “I hadn’t noticed.”
“You’re a fan of snickerdoodles?”
“Buck made them.”
Maddie tilted her head, “Yeah…but they’re not….”
Eddie frowned and regarded her curiously, taking the last bite of the cookie. “They’re not what?”
She stared at him for a minute and softly smiled. “Nothing. They’re good. Um, yeah.”
“Yeah, they are,” Eddie said looking up to see Buck watching them. He gave a little wave through the glass and shook his empty bottle. He was ready for another beer if his gesture was any indication. Eddie nodded and grabbed another cookie before heading to the fridge to get him a drink. “Honestly, I can’t seem to stop myself from eating whatever he makes.”
Maddie muttered something that sounded suspiciously like, “I bet.”
