Unease permeates this entire show. Even in this final episode with promises renewed, things don't feel like they're going well. I don't know what a good outcome looks like for these characters. Everyone simply feels too differently from one another, there's no happy outcome that suits all of them. The way the soundtrack in particular emphasises these feelings - with an oceanic feel as well because mermaids lmao - it just works, you know? Also wanna give a shoutout to Reina Ueda's vocal performance here, I've literally known for years that she's goated but my god every time I watch a new performance from her I'm just blown away again and again. Stealth contender for one of the best performances of the year. Great show. Will be happy to seek out the manga.
