I Got Work in the Morning is a concept. It’s a mindset that started during the writing of NanaBcool’s 2amCruise EP.

It’s about a time when a group of kids in their twenties were finding their way around the New York City music scene.

We were in all stages of life: some of us were interns, some of us were freelancers, some of us were hitting up odd jobs as we could, and some of us were working that 9-5 life.

But none of that mattered once we made it out to the listening parties,

the open mics, and the concerts.

Because we wanted our chance. We wanted to be seen.

We wanted to know the scene.

So, if an event was ending and there was an invitation for the next scene that night, the response would always be

“I mean Imma pull up, but I got work in the morning.” Moments like this sparked relationships both immediate and gradual down the line.

The truth is – we had work in the morning even if it was a weekend.

An off day from the grind just meant we had more time to work on our dreams.

From the studio sessions in Philly to the shows in DC; from audiences of 20 to audiences of 400+; from our local shows to the ones overseas –
