Sooo this is yet another bit of a beginning of the 2arc, this time in a proper comics form! I did two other posts: here and here, related to that same plot point, that you want to check out to know the context!
This comic is actually a redraw of a pretty old one I did back in 2022, which I still immensely love but will not show due to how outdated my style looks now... Maybe some time in the future!
Very old art, and there are two reasons I'm posting it now: 1) I still like it 2) it's important for understanding something that's I'm going to post later
So, have this little thing for now! With some lore context under the cut ;)
Soo, some of you might remember that I mentioned the second arc a few times, mostly in the context of Eugène, and the beginning of it is quite a crucial point - so I'm going to briefly retell it.
The second arc starts with a movement meeting - a regular small one, notable mostly by ghe fact that Clopin wasn't with them on that day as it was a more inner meeting mostly concerning certain funding questions, and his colleagues assured him he can take a day off. By accident, exactly on this day one of the gendarmerie officers, following his own biased reasoning and the old order of checking the "real state" of the movement's affairs, decided to break the current course of action and formed an unsanctioned raid on this meeting. Which, of curse, was followed by quite a commotion, started unintentionally by two movement members and, without hesitation, continued by the gendarmes. With that, of course, the clash between gendarmerie and the movement, previously subsided by Eugène Richard's new methods, started again, and lead to a very strained situation from both sides - which worsened sufficiently by the fact that Eugène, while trying to maintain at least some peace, started to develop an illness which even his doctors couldn't understand.
At the raid situation itself Eugène, of course, arrived at the place as soon as he was notified of the raid - only to find out it wasn't exactly fixable at this point. And, while searching the place, he had an encounter of which no one else learned - but it was, perhaps, the most unfortunate event that happened on this day.
