I have to laugh about the idea of legendary butterfly boned beauty tribe people being enchanting enough to topple empires being a thing in 2HA. That is one particular euphemism used to describe she mei to boot. 

So far we have seen two working characters who are of that tribe- she mei/hua binan and song quitong, who are a little vain about being the most beautiful . In both examples the men they wanted to enchant with their looks were insanely in love with someone else to the point they killed themselves to keep them safe. Especially Song Quitong who tried it twice in two lifetimes with two different men!

On the other hand the most legendary BBB of them all( Mo Ran...I couldn’t believe I didn’t notice that one coming when author says he is the most good looking of them all LOL)  is not the one for which Empires were toppled but he toppled Empires himself! with manipulation of another on top! 

That's way more interesting way to subvert the Helen of Troy style beauty trope than what I have seen. It's love which makes someone beautiful and moves empires not pretty faces.

Honestly Mo Ran and Shi Mei have a lot in common, and considering Hua Binan and Shi Mei’s relationship, that’s probably why he hates Mo Ran. They both watched their mothers die at a young age, and both of those incidents were in some capacity their fathers’ faults. They both fell in love with the first pretty older man that was nice to them, probably because of their daddy issues. They were both at Sisheng for shady reasons and were living lies because a man made them for his own gain. They both have evil alternate selves. They were both almost down for mass murder, but decided it wasn’t for them at the last moment. I haven’t finished the book yet, but from what I gather, they both fuck off into the woods at the end, and it’s the first time either of them are actually free. Shi Mei’s just a little smarter, and a little better at lying. I think they would vibe as frenemies.
