“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” - 2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV)

Commentary:

Fear can paralyze us, but this verse reminds us that it doesn’t come from God. Instead, He equips us with power to face challenges, love to overcome negativity, and a sound mind to make wise decisions. Fear loses its grip when we trust in God’s presence and promises. It’s not about ignoring what we’re afraid of but confronting it with the confidence that God is greater than any situation. Choosing faith over fear allows us to live boldly, knowing that we are empowered, protected, and deeply loved by our Creator.

New Meaning. When words like fear, poor, or controlling is spoken or lived with Christ, it will become fear of the Lord, poor in Spirit, and God is in control. He gives new meaning to words, or even life (like mine).

There is no formula to grace. It is God’s trump card. This can be hard for people who like formulas.

If you struggle with fear, something is out of order. Dawna shares a story of a girl who came into a Sozo, after getting married and moving away to another culture, needing help to understand why she struggled to love the way she expected to in her first year of marriage. Sometimes we need healing for the physical things around us that we respond to.

“Freedom” is not the same as “taking every thought captive”. Freedom is not having the struggle, because there’s nothing down inside of me that the enemy can hook on to.

Discernment is knowing what to do with that word of knowledge.

If your Power, Love and Discernment (sound mind) are not in proper order, you won’t be able to conquer your fear. Dawna uses the ingredients of a recipe to illustrate her message.

It’s ok to need order, that doesn’t make you a control freak. But what happens when we live with fear is that one of the coping mechanisms we employ is to pick up a spirit of control. If you know a “control freak”, it’s guaranteed that underneath all that is a scared and fearful person.

Power:

Don’t confuse “power” with mean, critical or controlling. Sometimes we let go of our power because of experiences we had in the past with powerful people.

Spices (counterfeits of power): - anger or rage - pornography

Every time you feel afraid you need to ask God “Why?, Is my power off the shelf? Is my love off the shelf? Is my discernment off the shelf?”

Love:

Boundaryless love is not love. It’s also not loving to not confront.

Spices (counterfeits of love): - Victimization and self-pity - Manipulation and over-serving

Over-serving makes you feel less and less like yourself, until one day you snap (false power) and damage the people around you because you didn’t have proper boundaries in the first place.

Discernment:

In a lot of places Discernment was kicked out of the church because we didn’t know what to do with it.

Spices (counterfeit discernment): - Critical and judgemental - Feeling superior - Bitterness and jealousy

Walk Through It

In the past couple weeks I've been walking out a revelation made to me. About walking through things. As a believer, were told to "give it up to God", "cast your cares". And I do.

I would say for the most part I'm pretty peaceful and know that whatever comes my way God's got my back.

But what about those times where I can't figure out the solution to a problem? The times when I'm trying to fit a square into a circle to make ends meet. When I have more bills to pay than the paycheck I received.

What I've always done is have faith. Have faith the Lord will take care of us. Cast my cares upon him and let all that extra "stuff" go. And I avoid them. Hide from them. Close my eyes and wait for God to wave his hand and make them dissapear. Quite often in hard times, my wife would ask me what we were going to do. And my best answer would be "Just have faith".

Now don't get me wrong. We are absolutely called to have endless faith and trust in God. Child-like faith. Knowing Abba will come through for his children. But we are called to walk through trials. Not around them. 

 And that same faith also empowers us to be fearless. To look at circumstances that seem impossible and face them head on. 

Joshua 1:9 tells us: "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

  If we can truly catch this scripture, we need not be fearful, or stressed, or needing to avoid any situation. We can face our debts, and our debtors with a humble heart and watch God do his best work. As he did in the parable of the unforgiving servant in Matthew 18:26-27.

26 The servant therefore fell down before him, saying, ‘Master, have patience with me, and I will pay you all.’ 27 Then the master of that servant was moved with compassion, released him, and forgave him the debt.

When We can have a courageous spirit, we have the integrity and character to address anything that lies in front of us. Out of humility, not pride. 

 Another area to walk through is that as Christians we tend to avoid conflict as well. Because many of us have been programmed by the world to respond to conflict in a wordly way. And we assume that our Christian response to conflict is to avoid it. God never called us to avoid conflict. He gives us tools and commands on how to best handle conflict, and reminds us that He is with us. Even in times of conflict with others. Read Proverbs, filled with an abundance of tools on how to best handle conflict. 

So that's what I'm working on as of late. To walk through any situation that is presented before me. And know that my God is with me, working for my good. He brings peace and resolution to any situation if you just trust in Him. And call on His name. In the times I've asked for God to "smooth things out" in hard situations, or difficult days he has always answered the call. Always. Never failed. Not once. God is good. All the time. Much of life is just us instilling in our hearts what God already is. And really grasping his perfect nature.
