i love that caleb is being so over-aggressive that he’s piloted two new abilities just to take out a few cops with under 50hp
him returning to the site of so much trauma and just so clearly not being here to fuck around... incredible

I couldn’t quite get this image out of my head when Beau leaped onto the roof and saw the guard.
He’s the 25th Bam.
“El mundo es mas feliz con vos bajo el sol”
2x127:La vida es maravillosa con vos en el mundo
tactically speaking............taking a day + risking discovery by the cerberus assembly who are ALREADY aware of their involvement in vess’ death + further pissing them off by stealing their shit in order to steal some necklaces that require attunement AND may well be rendered completely useless by the brand on fjord.............not the greatest plan
but in terms of potential shenanigans AND angst? impeccable
But why do they thought the way they went about things was the right way
so im answering this question bc i think it exemplifies THE biggest misunderstanding this fandom in general has of d&d and the way the critrole table plays it
neither the players nor the characters think that the way they did things during the heist was the ‘right’ way to do them
and this part is key: they do not care
first of all, there are no ‘right’ decisions in d&d. was there a safer way to do the heist? of course! send in frumpkin as a spider, do some actual recon beyond ‘that wall looks good’. have a plan for anything beyond just getting inside the building. have a proper contingency or a better communication system! but even had they devised the perfect plan, something WOULD have gone wrong eventually. d&d is fundamentally not a game about doing things right, it’s about what you do when things go wrong
secondly: everyone plays d&d differently, but the critrole table has told us again and again that they aren’t interesting in making ‘correct’ decisions. they’re here to have a fun game & explore an interesting story, and heists are fun & failure is interesting. i guarantee you the table knows now and knew at the time that the way they approached the heist was unsafe & brazen. watch the players’ reactions to caleb’s loud spellcasting, veth stealing the crystals, fjord making an illusory dragon, or marisha refusing to metagame and move beau back outside. they KNOW they’re making imperfect decisions. but they have never been interested in making perfect ones
finally, the characters themselves know that they’re being unsafe. concerns were expressed with team firestorm having both message users, and with beau being a middle-ground team all on her own. veth and jester were upset by caleb’s brutality, yes, but also with how loud that brutality was & how much attention they were drawing. and caleb himself has an intelligence of 20, he knows that using such loud spells was the wrong call for a stealth mission. but in that moment, he doesn’t care -- he’s clearly not thinking straight, or possibly really at all, & so even if he knows intellectually that he’s not going about things the ‘right’ way, he’s entirely ruled by his emotion and pain and anger at being back in the place where he lost ten years of his life. possibly he didn’t know gravity sinkhole would be loud the first time he cast it, but by the second time he’s clearly decided that he just straight up does not care, he’s going to do it anyway
so the answer to your question is that they know they made mistakes. and they made them deliberately
man i was so tired starting the ep i wasnt sure if i’d even watch live this week but watching sam, his face covered with clothes pegs, getting absolutely hammered by ashley and liam with nerf guns, strangely woke me right up sdfkgh
