Juno Retrograde: Centered
“If we commit ourselves to one person for life, this is not, as many people think, a rejection of freedom; rather, it demands the courage to move into all the risks of freedom, and the risk of love which is permanent; into that love which is not possession but participation.”― Madeleine L’Engle
Effective Dates: February 8th- May 28th, 2020
Helios’ Astrological Angle on Juno Retrograde in Libra– A lot of you are feeling stuck right now, languishing in a quagmire of indecision. You don’t know which way to go, which way is RIGHT because god help you if you go the wrong way, right? Everything seems so massive, so out of reach- your goals and wants too pie-in-the-sky to ever come true. Well, that’s an illusion, and it’s mainly down to Juno, Queen of Heaven, turning retrograde in her home sign of Libra.
Juno rules quite a narrow focus of factors: Marriage, Adultery, and Power Struggles in relationships- But she also rules something even more important that isn’t as well understood or discussed: Commitment. Here’s the thing. Many of us (myself absolutely included) struggle with the concept of Commitment, and typically resign it to relationships- with settling down, a sense of finality and giving up. That’s an illusion too.
You are struggling right now because you do not want to overcommit yourself to any one path because you are looking out for one that might end up being better. You are terrified of making a mistake and it proving terminal, becoming locked into a path that you hate- whether that be a relationship, job, business venture or life change. Even if you don’t have other options yet, you are worried that something better might come along, and all of a sudden you are stuck. This is human, but it is working against you- By never fully committing to the path that you are on, you are ruining your chances for success and happiness. You can’t live in the moment and get what you want by always waiting and holding your breath for something better.
This may feel like a time to pull back and walk on eggshells but it isn’t- This is a time where you need to move forward and make progress, even if you feel you aren’t ready. We become ready as we go. This life makes us what we need to become. Start where you are, commit to your Self and your ideal future. The road will open to you, and heaven help anyone who gets in your way. You will become centered as you make your mission to become the truest version of yourself.
Juno doesn’t want you to move through this life with trepidation and FOMO, she wants you to live with passion, to give yourself over to what you want, no matter it is. Once you actively commit to your path and start walking it boldly and without fear, then and only then will you find the freedom and confidence you think you will find by hedging your bets. This is a time when you will struggle with this, and you will undoubtedly be tempted with whatever shenanigans Mercury Retrograde has in store for us this time. You will be confronted with choices that you have made in the recent past, and will have to face up to the people you have hurt with your choices. Every choice made becomes a million lives not lived, and that realization will weigh heavy on you during this time. You MUST actively work towards centering yourself and living in the present by owning the choices you have made and accepting the consequences. Be brave, Heretics. You will have to say “No” to people and situations you have outgrown, and this may be painful. You may love what you need to leave behind. You must move forward anyway, in hope- Committed to your best future.
And so we go.

“Life will break you. Nobody can protect you from that, and living alone won’t either, for solitude will also break you with its yearning. You have to love. You have to feel. It is the reason you are here on earth. You are here to risk your heart. You are here to be swallowed up. And when it happens that you are broken, or betrayed, or left, or hurt, or death brushes near, let yourself sit by an apple tree and listen to the apples falling all around you in heaps, wasting their sweetness. Tell yourself you tasted as many as you could.” ― Louise Erdrich
Effective Dates: August 24th- November 4th, 2019
Helios’ Astrological Angle on Juno in Virgo– Okay, let’s talk about the worst day of your life. I’m talking specifically about when you are betrayed, cheated on, or left for someone else. This is the constant subject of pop culture, I can name about 12 different songs just off the top of my head that deal with the emotions of this day. If you’ve felt it yourself, then remember how it feels. All the narratives that run through your head, and how devastated you are. Now think about Juno, Queen of Heaven and Goddess of Marriage, who is cursed to have a constantly unfaithful partner who has lived this day thousands of times. She has seen her husband (who is also her brother, but thats a whole different bag of dicks to unravel) cheat on her so many times that it cannot possibly hurt her anymore, right? Wrong, it still wounds and scars every time.
So that’s basically what you’re going to be going through during this transit. Think of this as aggressive therapy. You’re going to relive this day, or the equivalent to it, when you were brought face to face with the knowledge that no matter what you did you were not enough for someone else. Whether that is a partner, a lover, a boss or a parent, we all know this feeling. You’re going to dwell on it, obsess over it, make it your main focus. This is to confront it over and over again until you have at least made peace with it, if not completely gotten over it.
During this transit, Juno will make you feel as though your heart is being thrown in a blender. Daily, you will feel this. You will be steeped in your trauma until you are able to survive it. This will be cruel, but the answer to external cruelty is internal kindness, kindness to yourself- that is your survival strategy with this transit. This is going to be another one of those “do anything you need to in order to survive” type transits, but you will be challenged not to harden your heart right now. Your mission will be to do just that- survive.
Here’s the deal, you are never going to fully move past the trauma this transit will bring up. I’m sorry, but you won’t. But you can still heal, and learn to live with it. That will be the goal here. As it comes more and more into sharp awareness and your pain is brought up to the surface, you will find ways of dealing with it. The more engaged you are with this process, the better, and the more breakthroughs you will make. There are solutions to your suffering to be found, and Juno will help you in this- if you let her.
It’s time to pick up the pieces of who you once were, Heretics. Make them into a new masterpiece.

Helios’ Astrological Angle on Juno in Capricorn: Right then, everyone’s favorite topic in Astrology- Relationships! Because that is absolutely where we need to be focusing our attention, as our world threatens to crumble down around our ears. Sure. Although… that is just so human, isn’t it? In the face of the terrifying and completely uncontrollable unknown, our instinct is to cling tighter to those we care about. We seek whatever comfort we can in the arms of those who let us.
Juno is not only the Queen of relationships, but she also rules over power. In Capricorn, this is a cold, brutal power that she seeks. It is the power of those who have known hurt, hunger and loss. It is the urge to place oneself at the top of the pyramid, ensuring that you never have to feel that pain again. Juno rarely seeks these things for herself, however- She prefers to attach herself to the ones in power, ruling from behind the throne (or more commonly, from the bedroom). Only as a last resort does she make the bold moves and claim the throne for herself. Think Cersei Lannister when it comes to Juno.
Now, that’s all interesting in the academic sense, but what does any of that mean for you? Well, for starters it means that the urge you are feeling to ignore the chaos that we are in to spend your time surrounded by loved ones and those who care about you is completely normal. The other thing it tells us is that your urge to scramble for whatever piece of the pie you can claim for your own is ALSO completely normal, no matter what it takes to get it. This may seem like an ill-timed transit, just adding onto the heaps of relationship drama we have in play already, not to mention a distraction from what really matters- what seems like the chaotic breakdown of the world around us. What Juno is telling us is that the global issues are actually the distraction, and while we fret about those, we are losing the ones nearest to our heart, who need us just as badly as we need them.
What we can predict from this is a crystalization and nailing down of the upswell that was started during the Women’s March, and similar protests. There will be a chance for the people to really make some concrete change. Right now while those at the top tear down, it is up to us to build. Juno in Capricorn may not be the easiest transit to deal with personally, but she is just what we need, giving us the fortitude to face what is on our horizon.
Artemis’ Tarot Take on Juno in Capricorn: (Cards- Queen of Wands, 8 of Swords, 3 of Wands, 10 of Pentacles)
This is a serious transit, so I’m going to put my serious oracle mask on. As the world is going to hell in a hand-basket fast (thanks Mars in Aries), we come to a bifurcation point – the tip of the dragon tongue, so to speak, a fork in the road where we reach a crucial decision in our path. Although you perceive we are all on individual paths, they all paint a picture together as well. Where are we all headed, and how do we each play a role in this journey? We are about to make a decision together – in the Macro and in the Micro – and this will be a heavy one to commit to. So many things are coming together while so many things are falling a part. It seems that now, more than ever, the community is bonding at an even deeper level. We are at a point where we must decide who or what we swear our allegiance to.
In Astrology, two goddesses are associated with the 7th House (house of partnership). Venus rules over ever chaotic “love”portion of the house, while Juno rules over the far more stabilizing “commitment” portion. These two goddesses are like the two scales of Libra, needing to be in equal proportion to stabilize the 7th house. Between them they have the ideas of inspiration/vision (3 of wands) and self restriction (8 of swords).
So it’s time to evaluate, Heretics, because Juno is going into Capricorn and our commitments are going to be tested under the weight of all of this new fire. We have a strange configuration that is about to transpire in the sky; Jupiter in Libra will be going retrograde, Psyche is retrograde in Virgo, Venus is entering Aries and will be going retrograde as well, Mars is in Aries (meaning both Venus and Mars will be traversing past the Harley Quinn and Joker Uranus/Eris in Aries). Juno in Capricorn is commitment at it’s highest point – the sort you need before embarking on a particularly dangerous journey. And Aries is that which we truly need to feel inspired. Together this makes the idea of a rocket launching into space – an idea, a lot of math, a lot of money, training, trust, inspiration and committed astronauts with passion in their hearts.
Commitments can come in many forms. We can be committed to a person, an ideology, a spiritual path, manifesting an inspired idea – whatever it may be, those commitments are going to need Capricorn-like attention as we move through these intense transits. Because Uranus is a planet of the collective, I believe that as Venus and Mars transit past it, tempers will flare. We are building toward a Leo full moon in the sun sign of Aquarius during a very intense political climate, and it is very clear to me that things are going to change and we are never coming back. We are launching on a new journey, Heretics, so who do you want to make that journey with?
Who do you swear your allegiance to? Juno in Capricorn asks you if it is something tangible – something real and solid so we can make this climb – or is it a divisive ideology that poisons the mind? It is time to evaluate what is necessary for our next journey, and it is time to evaluate who we trust to take it with us – who we trust to lead us through it. Who will help you grow through the chaos? What people? What higher ideals, if any at all? What goals? These are the areas of life that will be tested come the next 6 months.
